While leaving Okene for Iloring in the final leg of our recent tour, I came across this entertaining Eku (Masquerade) and was impressed by its methodology. Ogedembe, a controversially named Ebira Masquerade (Eku) specialises in the art of 'Pay per dance' around Okunchi area of Ogaminana, Adavi LG of Kogi state. We were in Port-Harcourt, River State to share some quality time with Alhaji Usman Anibassa of Shell Petroleum and Mall. Ahmed Olokoba before heading to Abuja. While in Abuja, we shall be visiting Abdul Malik Badamasuiy of Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) and Alhaji Abubakar Imam of Leaside Estate. UPDATE: Our team left for Abuja enroute Okene. Maquerades roamed about the busy Okene-Abuja road around Idanuhua, Inorere and Nagazi area of Adavi local government. On Friday the 27th of June around 6.30pm in company of Alhaji Usman Anibasa who was on a brief home visit, some youths dressed in mini jackets labelled 'Adavi Peace Committee' directed the traffic as a mamoth crowd trailed behind an unidentified Maquerade (Eku) which headed towards Idanuhua, Ogaminana. The 'peace committee' made little impact as the procession caused long traffic jam that we were forced to make a U-turn to continue our tour through Uhucheba-Ipaku road. He is Siyaka Oyibo, HOD, Entrepreneural training of the Armed Forces Ressettlement Center (AFRC) Oshodi, Lagos. His research into Ebira history is what many believes will give birth to the biggest history book of Ebiraland! One major area of interest is his research on Ebira traditional names. So far, he has documented over 700 Ebira names beginning with letter 'A' and particularly researched the mistery sorrounding the nobility and significance of the letter 'O' in Ebira language generally.
