FairWin: Weathering the road to Lugard House

By Ismail M. Kabir  When the General Ibrahim Babangida administration created Kogi State in 1991, it was greeted with wild jubilation. That auspicious period promised a new dawn to the people that would later be regarded as Kogites. A new dawn ordinarily brings with it new hopes, better opportunities and improved standard of living. But more than two decades later, and in contrast with the high expectations, an unprecedented level of retrogression dawned on the people of the state. However, this piece is not another shot at reminding the people of the undue relegation of a supposed progressive state to the abyss of history by its successive clueless leadership, rather, it is borne out of the need to appreciate the selfless efforts of a committed few that not only identified with the dogged struggle to liberate Kogi state, but also defied the raging storm by staying true to their belief in the man Yahaya Adoza Bello with the resolve to succeed in the daunting battle against all odds.

Challenges And Opportunities Awaiting Bello As Wada Hands Over A Troubled State, By Deen Adavize

On Wednesday, 27th January 2016, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will assume duties as governor and chief security officer of the confluence state. His assumption will not only mark the beginning of a new era, but also end the decade-long political dynasty of certain section of the state. Since its creation in 1991, the state has witnessed unprecedented political instability, socio-economic downturn, improvised by ineptitude of people who prioritise self-interest over state development. There is no doubt that the incoming government will inherit a state with a severe and devastating structures, ranging from political instability, increasing wave of insecurity occasioned by decades of systematic neglect of army of youths in the state and wide spread poverty, infrastructural cum educational decay, accumulated debts and general loss of morality amongst other pot of challenges. In spite of these alarming hurdles, the incoming governor still has numerous opportunities to overcome all the chall

WHY HIS EXCELLENCY ADOZA YAHAYA BELLO MUST HIT GROUND SLOWLY AND WITH CAUTION

Like PMB's presidency,  the AYB governorship of Kogi State is not by accident although both have divine authorship in their manners of emergence as the head of their respective onstituencies ie.  The Federal and state. Without mincing words it is imperative that we in the Kogi Shift Ambassadors Congratulate and Welcome his Excellency Kogi governor elect to the toughest and most challenging part of his existence, yes it was his choice to become our governor, that cannot be said of the outgoing governor who was drafted in by a godfather, your Excellency struggled for it and when it seams impossible divinity sets in Almighty God Fathered you Himself meaning you owe nobody but God and all the people of Kogi State. The idea of hitting ground running is not in your interest and that of the state you will be inheriting come 27th of January 2016, the Kogi Shift Ambassadors candid congratulatory message to you is to hit ground slowly with caution while you take time to appraise all the li

Ebira Politics: New Era, New Perspective

By Fortune Omuya Ebira as a nation had moved tremendously over the the years toward a positive direction. Once upon a time Kogi Central  was labelled a war zone, brothers facing themselves with guns and machetes. Town waging war against town, leaders against leaders. Religion against religion and schools against schools. Citizens against police and armies molesting our women. From the shackles of disgrace to the avalanche of God's amazing Grace. Ebira suddenly had become the most peaceful region in Kogi State. A God own region. We have moved from shooting at each others arrows of hatred and wickedness. And today in unity we live. Today we have compassion for each others and even the prodigal sons and daughters are returning. We have changed from seeing ourselves as Ezi Odumi, Ezi idu, Ezi ehete, ezi omoye or ezi uka and so on and so forth but ONE EBIRA. We are neither Christians nor Muslims but on Nation. We are neither Ihima nor Okene but ONE EBIRA. We may be scattered abroad b

DROWNING AUDU IN DESPERATE DITHER FOR LIFEBUOY

By Jude Enesi Salau writerswithoutwalls@yahoo.ca 09091234101; 08080229900 Anebira, actuated by envy, have turned against Abubakar Audu just because he is marching “unstoppably to victory” as governor of Kogi State. So cried some pack of misguided children lately vide advertorials carried in The Nation on Sunday and Daily Trust newspapers of Sunday October 25, 2015, sponsored by a KOGI EAST APC YOUTH FRONT and captioned: “Prince Abubakar Audu’s Candidature and the Ebira Question”. What comes across from their rather winding patchwork of delusion and outright falsehood couched in bellicose words is that Kogi Central citizens are threatened by Audu’s intimidating credentials by which, contrary to the wishes and scheming of Ebira people, he is cruising to electoral victory in the governorship election billed for November 21, 2015. This is however far from the truth. Abubakar Audu knows in his heart of hearts that he is an electoral liability to any group that may be accursed enough to

Battle for Kogi APC Ticket Picks Up

As Published on ThisdayLive. Com, 28 Jul 2015 As Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State concludes his first term in office, the battle for his job may have picked up in earnest as top contenders in the All Progressives Congress slug it out, writesShola Oyeyipo The tenure of the current Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada is bid to come to an end on January 27, 2016. But ahead of this winding up, the people are already warming up to go to the polls on November of this year to elect the next occupant of the Lugard House in Lokoja for the next four years. Kogi, alongside Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa, Anambra and Ekiti, fell from the list of states whose handover dates are May 29 every four years consequent upon a Supreme Court ruling from a prolonged litigation of election petitions.

JONATHAN, please complete Ajaokuta Steel Complex

BY OBAKA ABEL INABO I am using this medium to make a passionate appeal to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR to kindly muster the political will and complete the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL). Before I state the potentials of the steel plant, let me put it on record that the Ajaokuta Steel Plant is not obsolete as erroneously put across to the public by some people who are largely ignorant of steel technology. Let me quote from the recent technical audit conducted by the Ukrainians on the plant: “…the situation of the steel plant’s equipment and facilities are satisfactory. Mechanically, the steel plant equipment and facilities are generally in good condition.” I made reference to the quotation above because we need to inform the good people of Nigeria that the Blast Furnace Technology of Steel Making adopted in ASCL is still the best method through which large volumes of steel are produced in the World today. In year 2011, for instance, the World Steel Statistic

CBN’s Weird, Murderous Economic Theory

By Yusuf Ozi-Usman Yusuf Ozi-Usman Faced with economic crisis, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) appears to be leading Nigeria down the economic precipice, with it’s strange devaluation of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira, against the US Dollar. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who spoke to newsmen after a meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee on Tuesday, announced that Naira has been devalued by N13. He said that the Naira devaluation is part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s economy, adding that under the new arrangement, the Naira would now exchange for N168 instead of the old official rate of N155 to one US dollar. While the end users of the economy like me were thrown off balance and the financial experts are putting their thoughts together on how to handle the situation, the deputy governor of the same CBN, Dr. Joseph Nnanna countered that CBN did not devalued naira but merely announced a new exchange rate in compliance with market forces. “The CBN,” N

PRADIN Cautions FG on BPP’s Illegal Action on Contractors

A civil society organization, Procurement Observation And Advocacy Initiative, PRADIN has kicked against “announcements (on Channels TV to be specific) by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and involving the Attorney General and Minister of Justice as well as the Minister of Works wherein it is stated that “the President has approved that all contractors and consultants in Nigeria are to register with BPP for purpose of classification and categorization based on their technical and financial strength”, and which purpose is to reduce corruption.” PRADIN in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said “As a procurement group under the leadership of a certified professional, we have observed that the announcement byBPP is an attempt to misguide the public by using the name and office of the President as being the one that approved the process for BPP to begin the conduct of classification and categorization, whereas, this is a statutory responsibility
