Ebira Politics: New Era, New Perspective

By Fortune Omuya

Ebira as a nation had moved tremendously over the the years toward a positive direction. Once upon a time Kogi Central  was labelled a war zone, brothers facing themselves with guns and machetes. Town waging war against town, leaders against leaders. Religion against religion and schools against schools. Citizens against police and armies molesting our women.

From the shackles of disgrace to the avalanche of God's amazing Grace. Ebira suddenly had become the most peaceful region in Kogi State. A God own region. We have moved from shooting at each others arrows of hatred and wickedness. And today in unity we live. Today we have compassion for each others and even the prodigal sons and daughters are returning.

We have changed from seeing ourselves as Ezi Odumi, Ezi idu, Ezi ehete, ezi omoye or ezi uka and so on and so forth but ONE EBIRA. We are neither Christians nor Muslims but on Nation. We are neither Ihima nor Okene but ONE EBIRA. We may be scattered abroad but success is gathering us back again. We may have ran away and vow never to return again but I tell you, unity and love can break any vow. Ebira is flourishing again. Let those in diaspora like those at home sing a joyful songs because this is the Lord's doing and it is marvellous in our sight. It is the way you appeared you will be treated. Most times before a beggar could raise his voice your hand is already in your pocket because he appeared as a beggar. We must as a matter of urgency begin to speak well of your nation and tribe because God has began a good job in us. But if you change the way look at things the things you looked at will definitely changed.

Kudos to men of goodwill who over times don't get tired, weary even in the midst of hauling insult and hatred speech we throw on them, for your sake we are where we are today. The unsung heroes of this achievement are men who in the corridors of their room praying day and night for the revival of Ebiraland. This victory is your victory. The unsung heroines are our mothers and wives who day and night pointing us to a direction we must not follow because of destiny. Your supports for your children and husbands have brought about this great achievement.

When I wrote an article titled SECOND CHANCE: THE PARADOX OF POLITICKING IN KOGI STATE. Many notable politicians and leaders called and assured me they will do everything within their power to give us the victory we long desired, they kept their words and the result thereof is fairwin. How can these be achieved without the united voices of our fathers, and brothers. The politicians whose bellies are not their constituencies or regarding their bank account more valuable than our collective interests. From senator Ohiare to Sanusi Abubakar, from Dr. Phillips to Pa Tom Adaba. From Ohize to Nurudeen Abatemi, from Ohinoyi to all the Otaru and Ohis, from Salihu Abdulkareem to all other great politicians who have laboured behind the scene to achieve this succes, from me to all other teeming youths who laboured day and night, others travelling from far and near like Kano, Abuja, Lagos and many places just to registered their support this victory. For once we all stood and speak to power in one voice, only victory can reward you all and you all are heroes.

Yes another test of true forgiveness in our land raised its ugly head, when court sack senator Ohiare. I saw youth across the country wearing a sorry faces. We are touched because your fall is our fall. We are touched because we identified with you in this struggle. I want you to know its a huge sacrifice you have paid for the whole Ebira nation and Kogi at large. Your name will be written in gold in the political history of our dear land. We have changed the way we looked at you. You are not just a politician but a father. God will make you a father indeed with or without a political post.

If there is anyone among you who still doubt the unity of Ebira, the answer is in you. Change the way you looked at yourself and you will definitely change for better. Merry Christmas and Happy New year in advance to all my Ebira brothers and sisters. I Love You All.
Thank God for setting my feet here in Ebira Land.

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte

The Obege legend

In the earliest generations when the art of magic was yet a myth to the people, there was born a boy into a family of hunters in the village of Eika - one of the six communities that comprised the ancestral groups. He was believed to have been born with a leaf in his hand and to the elders of then, that was prognostic of what he would be - a native healer. And had grown up performing wonders. His kinsmen were all hunters, they would deny the boy the opportunity to follow them hunting, purely on age ground - and he was really too young to go hunting in the forest. They would leave him in the house with the women as they set out on their hunting expedition. But they had meet the young Obege in the forest roasting a fair member of the forest’s game, all alone - and unarmed! The elders had to defer to this wonderful boy. Obege as an adult was more than human. His fame had spread all over the land: he was a healer of most seemingly incurable diseases, he was a rain maker, assumed more divin
