Senate Passes Bill Establishing Steel University, Ajaokuta

After prolonged technical and painstaking considerations, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has today passed the bill seeking the establishment of Steel University Ajaokuta, Kogi State. Breaking News: Buhari grants financial autonomy to state judiciary, Houses of Assembly

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Fourth Alteration Bill that grants financial autonomy to State Judiciaries and State Houses of Assembly into law. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (senator), Senator Ita Enang disclosed this to State House correspondents on Friday. Senator Enang said, “I just want to inform you that His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari today assented to the Constitution Fourth Alteration Bill which grants financial authonomy and independence to the Houses of Assembly of the respective states and to the Judiciary of the respective states. “Therefore upon this signature the amounts standing to the credit of the judiciary are to be now be paid directly to the judiciary of those states, no more through the governors and no more from the governors. “And then the amounts standing to the credit of the Houses of Assembly of the respective states are now to be paid directly to the Houses of Assembly of that

​Nigeria finally retakes ownership of Ajaokuta steel, Itakpe mining Companies –  Fayemi

Ifeoluwa Adeyemo Nigeria has recovered ownership of Ajaokuta Steel Company, ASC, and National Iron Ore Mining Company Limited, NIOMCO, Itakpe, following the resolution of a protracted legal dispute. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at the maiden meeting of the National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development. He said Nigeria and Global Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, GINL, have signed a ‘Modified Concession Agreement’ resolving their protracted dispute on the two companies located in Kogi State. He said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo executed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government. “With this development, both NIOMCO and Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited have now reverted to the Federal Government Nigeria, and we can now proceed to engage a new core investor with the financial and technical capacity to run the steel complex. “The operation of ASC will provide the needed inputs to support the infrastru

Kidnappers of 5 years old Jonathan demand N50 Million Ransom

Kidnappers of a 5-year-old boy, Jonathan Sulieman , the son of a Zonal Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Okene, Kogi State are demanding N50million before the boy,a nursery 2 pupil will be released. Saturday Mirror gathered that suspected gunmen numbering about four kidnapped the toddler on Monday about 7:45am when he was being driven to school in Okene. According to the father of the boy, the gunmen had perfected plans to have his son kidnapped and they succeeded in their plans. Pastor Sulieman who spoke with Saturday Mirror over the phone stated that the kidnapping of his son is devastating and called on the police and other security agencies to help rescue his son. “Jonathan is my last born. Breaking: Reps take over Kogi Assembly

The House of Representatives today took over the functions of the Kogi State House of Assembly over the crisis that engulfed the assembly in the last one month. In taking the decision at plenary, the House said its action was in line with the provision of Section 11 (4) of the 1999 Constitution, which says the National Assembly could take over the functions of any state assembly that is enmeshed in crisis. You can recalls that five members of the Kogi assembly purportedly impeached the speaker Momoh Jimoh Lawal and elected Umar Imam as new speaker. Consequently, the House passed a resolution a fortnight ago setting up an ad-hoc committee to visit the state assembly with a view to resolving the matter. Although the five lawmakers shunned the Reps panel, the committee submitted its report last week, which was considered at plenary today. Breaking News: Kogi House of Assembly gets new speaker

Five members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday morning impeached the Speaker, Hon. Momoh Jimoh and chose Umar Imam as the new Speaker. Friday Sanni who briefed journalists about the impeachment said the Speaker was impeached for not carrying other members of the House along in the affairs of the House. He also claimed that since the new Governor, Yahaya Bello and the Speaker are both from the same senatorial district, the Speaker should vacate the seat. Meanwhile, 15 members of the House who were seen at Hon. Jimoh’s residence insist Hon. Jimoh remains the Speaker and that their signature was forged to perfect the impeachment. Court dismisses Wada, Faleke’s suit, okays supplementary election

Faleke, the running mate of late Abubakar Audu today. The court also ruled that supplementary elections slated for December 5 in 91 polling units will go ahead as planned. Kolawole struck out all the suits saying that his court has no jurisdiction to entertain the issues brought as they are post election matters. He therefore ruled that the issues in the different suits should be taken to the Election Petition Tribunal for determination when it is constituted. The Judge also ruled that the issue of the legality or otherwise of the supplementary poll can also be determined by the Tribunal. He therefore ruled that the supplementary election should go ahead as planned by INEC. The keenly contested All Progressives  Congress  (APC) primary election for the 2015 Kogi governorship election has come to an end. Prince Abubakar Audu, a former governor of Kogi State emerged the winner, polling a total of 1,109 votes to clinch the ticket. The election, headed by Governor Nasir elRufai of Kaduna state had 28 aspirants from the three senatorial zones of Kogi State. The exercise which held at the Lokoja Confluence stadium commenced on Saturday, August 29th 2015 and lasted till about 10:00am of Sunday 30th August,  2015. Tension in Okene as police fired an innocent boy on the leg

Kabir An unidentified policeman from the Okene division has shot a young boy, in his way to his motor mechanics workshop this morning.  According to sources around the scene of the incidence, the boy, currently lying in a critical condition at the Okene general hospital is a roadside motor mechanic who normally takes a short route, an alley between GRA Okene and the St. Andrew's Primary school to his workshop. 

72 year old social critic arraigned in kidnapp of High Court Judge

BY BANABAS ATTAH (Per Second News), ABUJA Nigeria police command in Kogi state have charged a 72-year-old man, Ahmed Adoke and John Sule, 41, Mechanic, for allegedly kidnapping High Court Judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi. The accused were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court II  Wednesday, along with others now on the run,  to have criminally conspired and armed themselves with offensive weapons to commit the crime. According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) the accused, wielding AK-47 rifles and locally made pistols disguised themselves and blocked  the judge on Ebogogo road, close to the court premises and “forcefully stopped his car and dragged him away.”

Supreme Court affirms Ado Ibrahim as Ebiraland monarch

By ADE ADE‎SOMOJU (Punch News). HRM Alh. Ado Ibrahim  The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed Alhaji Ado Ibrahim as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland of Kogi State. Ibrahim was appointed the paramount ruler of Ebrialand by the then Military Administrator of Kogi State, Col. Bzigu Afakirya, on June 2, 1997, but a suit challenging his appointment was instituted before the Kogi State High Court on March 6, 1998. Ibrahim appealed to the Supreme Court after he was ordered to be deposed by the concurrent judgments of both the Kogi State High Court where the matter started and subsequently the Jos Division of the Court of Appeal. Tragedy: Four die as gunmen bomb Tao FM station

Kabir The Radio station after the attack Followinng the terror attack yesterday (Monday, April 27th 2015) by unknown gunment on Tao FM, Ebira sole electronic media house located on Ogidi lane, Kuroko in Adavi LGA of Kogi state, four people including two security guards, an in-house engineer and a carpenter were killed. The assaialant then detonated an explosive devide that shook the buiilding housing the radio station to its foundation. Breaking News: 80 year old kidnapped American missionary freed in Kogi

Per Second News has reported the release of the 80 year old kidnapped American missionary. Banabas Attah, Per Second News, Lokoja--- American missionary Phyllis Sortor, who was kidnapped last month by masked gunmen in Kogi State, Nigeria, has been freed. Security agents in Nigeria refused to provide details of her release, but said it involved some form of negotiations. Police kill notorious hoodlum in 9-hr gun battle in Ilorin

By Demola Akinyemi ILORIN—A notorious hoodlum, who has been terrorising Ilorin and environ was killed yesterday at Pakata area of the city, while an army officer sustained severe injury in a fierce battle that lasted nine hours. Eye witness account told Vanguard that Anifowoshe community in Pakata, Ilorin, Kwara State capital, was a theatre of war in the battle between the hoodlum and a combined team of Army, Airforce and Police. Residents of the area were held hostage for hours, while the main road around Government Girls Day Secondary School was blocked by the security team, thus preventing vehicular movement from both sides. Another soul lost to the congested Okene-Lokoja highway

A youth identified as Ilyas Ajah was crushed to death along Eika road when he fell off the motorcycle he boarded on his return from work. A trailer conveying cattle to Abuja instantly crushed him to death. Until his death, late Ilyas Ajah was a staff of Itakpe Iron Ore Mining Company. His body just arrived his family house at Idoji for burial as at the time of filing this report. May his gentle soul rest in peace. We must rise to collectively clear our roads of this unbearable congestion.

Jubilation as Ajaokuta Steel commenced Production
