This declaration was contained in the Keynote address delivered today by the Governor at the official commissioning of solar hybrid mini grid project at Ukpogo Community of Okene local government area. The governor who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Energy, Hon. Otayite commended the zeal of REA in ensuring that rural communities across Nigeria enjoy steady energy supply through solar power. However, the Governor urged the agency to extend the community light up project to other deserving rural based facilities across Kogi State. Kabir To curb the rising spate of encroachment on public school lands in Kogi Central Senatorial district, an advocacy group, Proudly Anebira Forum has called for government's intervention to forestall the anomaly. In a renewed advocacy to save public schools in Ebiraland from extinction, the group berated the senseless encroachment and acquisition of lands within and around public primary and secondary schools across the community. It is believed that school lands are being sold to desperate people by jobless youth under the pretext of clannish ownership, a development that has reduced most schools to residential areas. Ajaokuta Ownership Tussle - Group Cautions Indigenes Against Violence

By Ismail M. Kabir, Lokoja A coalition of concerned Ebira interest groups has cautioned against acts of tribal incitement and violence in the ongoing legal tussle over the ownership of Ajaokuta land. The caution was contained in a release by the Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Special Projects, Hon. Abdulkarim Onyekehi Suleiman following a historic visit to the native village of Ajaokuta by various groups and relevant stakeholders. The visit, led by the Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) and government appointees from Ajaokuta LGA to the palace of Ohiete of Ajaokuta, the leading traditional ruler of the area also culminated into delivery of a World Press Conference on the legal battle for the true owners of Ajaokuta between Ebira people and the Igalas. Save Our Road: Community cry out to incoming Kogi State governor

By Ismail M. Kabir Youths from Idapokiti community of Okene have cried out to the incoming governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to save their road from collapse. The call was made last recently as the youths commenced another round of community rehabilitation work on the dilapidated Idoji-Badoko road, 3 years after similar approach was adopted to make the road motorable after years of neglect by successive administrations of Okene Local government Area. "This is the second time such effort is being employed to save this badly eroded road from total collapse", a youth in the area told Ebiraview. Earlier in 2012, youths from the community poured out in droves to fill the roads with rocks and laterites from the hills. Ireyi Emerges New Ohi of Adavi

Alhaji Bello Mohammed Oreyi has been appointed the new Ohi of Adavi in Kogi State. Bello emerged the new Ohi on Tuesday after beating nine other contestants in an election conducted by the Council of Kingmakers in the community. He succeeds the late Ohi, Dr. Bello Ibrahim, who died on Oct. 14, 2015 at the age of 78 years. One of the kingmakers, Mallam Yakubu Beida, while announcing Bello as the new Ohi elect, said that Bello polled eight out of the 13 votes, while four other contestants scored one vote each. He said that five other contestants had no vote. “Having scored the highest votes which was 8 out of the total votes cast of 13, Alhaji Bello Mohammed Ireyi is hereby declared the winner and returned elected as Ohi of Adavi, “he said. Police lay siege on Okene town in misdirected reprisal

By Ismail M. Kabir A police detachment from the Okene division was yesterday attacked by unidentified gunmen leaving one policemen dead. The attack took place at about 2:00PM around the Queens of Apostle College along the Okene - Auchi road. Eye witness accounts held that the police officer were escorting a newly promoted officer to his new station when their van broke down around the Ozohu area of Okene township. As the officers awaited repair of the faulty vehicle, three gunmen riding on a motorbike opened fire on the policemen killing one officer on the spot as others scampered for safety. Stunned by the unprovoked attack, youths from the area reportedly gave the attackers a hot chase to the nearby school premises, hauling rocks and other dangerous misiles on the fleeing gunmen till two of them were overwhelmed, disarmed and handed over to the police. Natasha Akpoti has hosted pupils from four primary schools in her hometown of Ihima in Okehi local government area to mark her birthday. Natasha flanked by the Obobanyi of Ihima holding a dummy of the bank cheque The event held at the premises of Demonstration Primary School, Obeiba Ihima and was attended by parents, teachers, the school children and some notable members of the community on Wednesday, December 9th 2015.  Natasha used the event to present a bank cheque to cover the second term school fees of 596 pupils from the five primary schools in the community. Pastor Jacob Jimoh, head teacher of the Demonstration School Obeiba received the cheque on behalf of the authorities of the four beneficiaries.
