Ohinoyi Ebira Received Kwararafa People's Assembly

Kwararafa is known as one of the ancient and strongest Kingdoms in the history of Nigeria.

The president of the group Hon. Leo Densak Saje who after showering prayers and eulogy on His Royal Majesty, said the group realised that the Kwararafa has made name in the past, he listed some tribes that are under the old Kwararafa Kingdom such as Jukun, Nupe, Idoma, Ebira, Igala, Ngas and many more that are spread across 28 states.

They are in the palace of Ohinoyi of Ebira to support the vision as they had started the journey from the palace of Aku Uka, the Attah Igala and now at the Ohinoyi of Ebira palace to support the vision toward establishing Kwararafa Council and Kwararafa traditional ruler's council to enhance and unify the tribes in the Council. They sought forgiveness of their forefathers' wrongldoings in the past that led to the disintegration of the ancient undefeatable Kingdom as they set to reunite all the tribes that have their origin to the Kingdom.

His Royal Majesty Ohinoyi Ebira Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje in his response welcomed the group and acknowledged them for the effort. He prayed for whoever initiated this idea of reuniting the entire tribes under the Kwararafa Kingdom. He stated it clearly that the Ebira never lost their historical attachment with the Kwararafa Kingdom and with that they will not sway the initiative away rather they will embrace the idea. His Royal Majesty urged them to keep the initiative going as he promised his support and pray for continuous strength to keep the vision on and aid the   actualization of the dream. He cautioned them to maintain and hold onto truth because only truth can sustain unity of any group. He prayed for the mercy journey of the delegates.

Ekuechi Festival Of Ebiraland

ORIGIN OF THE FESTIVAL There are few accounts of how the festival started. However, the differences inthese accounts are not fundamental. Generally, Ireba Eku (masquerade cult) wasbelieved to have been formed under the divine instruction of God to check the excesses of women, apart from serving as ancestor worship. Myth has it that aftercreating man and woman as husband and wife, one day God sent for the man but hewas too busy to honour the call. Instead, he requested his wife to heed God’s call onhis behalf. God gave her Irakwo (an egg-like object that contains the secrets of lifeand has the capacity to manifest supernatural powers) for her husband. Having dis-coveredits contents and being fascinated by them, she hid it in her uterus and laterswallowed it without giving it to her husband. She thereafter became quite powerful, performing supernatural feats as turning into any animal and changing back to ahuman being. She could instantly grow wings to fly around in astral travels. She al...

Sketch History of Ebira (Itopa Ebira)

ORIGIN OF THE EBIRAS An elder beats the Agidibo to salute the spirits (Photo by EbiraView) Ebira Tao is the largest of the several Ebira groups found in about 8 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT). The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation. In about 1680 AD, they (along with the Idoma and Igala) migrated out of Wukari a chieftaincy dispute. The Ebira later split into various groups and settled in different locations between 1680 and 1750 AD. The Eb...
