Amewuru seeks refuge from 'Death'

The 'Death ridder' (Akaramuda)meets death

As fate would have it, this was the last movie by Amewuru. He died few months after. He was shot dead in his home (in the late hours of the night) for being a PDP member, during the April 2007 general election which threw Ebira into heavy chaos over the Kogi state Gubernatorial race.

The movie sold more after the sad event of Amewuru's demise. Many observed that his role in the movie is connected to his eventual gruesome death.

  1. point of correction, the six clan in ihima are not all sons. For the sake of of our future children,i will spare my time here to make it clear to what is unclear to must Anebiras.
Ihima ochuga was the fourth son of Ebira Ita'Azi,thr ancestor of Ebira ethnic nation of today's kogi state CSZ.Ihima had children in the following order of seniority....AVA,Atta,Apasi,Unoiza,and Omeja.Ebira Ita'Azi did not establish any chiftaincy stool to which his children could aspire. The stool of the Attah of Ebiraland instituted in 1917,now chrisened Ohinoyi was made into rotional stool only in 1997,after 80years of existence. The Edict No.3 of 1997 which purportedly made the stoll a rotational one among the five tradtional districts was ill-in-formed,anti traditiona and could,in future, cause more problem than we have today. So it is dubious for any District to lay claim to the ohinoyiship of Ebiraland on the basis of a defective legislation.
The five children of Ihima through evolution of time, growth and development metamorphose into six clans according to their descent by time and gender with the following social structure:
APASI-EZURE CLAN(F).AVA&ATTA-EMANI CLAN(M)UNOIZA-ANOHUETEA CLAN(F).OMEJA-EZIODUMI CLAN(F).EJE=EZI-IHIANWA & EZI-OHA,both are females. The patriarch Ochiga ihima was both father and a ruler and at his demise,it was only natural and traditional that his eldest male children succeeds him in that status and office in order to continue the patriarchy and the patrimony.
THE OBOBANYI OF IHIMA:The son of Ihima Ochuga, now known as Anemani created the first throne and founded the stool of Obobanyi of Ihima Chieftaicy title.By unilateral rule of descent of patrilineal societies, only the male descendants of an ancestor could rule the people if his identity, linage and history are to be preserved. This was why and how Anemani became the ruling house of Ihima district and not an imposition as claimed by detractors.
Although, there are now six clans in Ihima, not all are directed descendants of Ihima Ochuga. The six clans are not sextuplets;they evolved several decades and centuries after one another and so,could not be described as equal or autonomous in any sense of the word.
The Ihima society had taken shape as afull-fledge society before some of the clans evolved. To preserved the line of decent of each clan and a sense of self rule, the Obobanyi of Ihima as the royal progenitor and paterfamilias of Ihima people became the besdtowal authority who conferred titles on surbordinate Chiefs of Ihima clan descents:-The Ogasube Of Ezure,The Oborogu of Ohueta,The Ohiomata of Odumi,The Otaru of Ohianwa and the Idu of Oha clan. All Are members of Ihima tradtional Council of Chiefs under the leadership of Obobanyi of Ihima.More-over the kogi state Chieftaincy Law of 1992 as amended created the office of the Okehi Local Government Traditional council of which has the oObobanyi as statury chairman, which further reinforced his status and authority on chieftaincy matters.
It therefore amounts to mischief for any group of people to still be searching for a ruler to serve as symbol of communal cohesion''when one is in place for over three centuries, tried, tested and have passed the test of time.
    Evidance of Obobanyi of ihima:
As early as 1910,mr.Groom and Mr.Cator wrote that Ihima,Eika and Adavi has their headmen. This was alsoreitarated by Paul Brown in his work'The Igbira`' in the general title of Ethnographic Survey of west Africa and subtitled´´the people of the Niger-Benue Confluence' The Obobanyi of Ihima was the 'headman' reffered to therein.
The Annual Report on Igbira devision for 1924 by MC CAbe Cadet,D.O'the ruling family of the Ihima Group, from which the throne and title of tzhe Obobanyi of is derived.
The Obobanyi of Ihima established the first and only court in the whole Ebiraland before colonial rule.the court held at Idaokarei and AKpata was the judge while the was the chief Arbitrator.
At the advent of Colonial rule, the court was the first to be recognised,Akpata was confirmed and appointed a judge and the Obobanyi of ihima was made president of native court of Ihima and subsequently as amember,Native Appeal Court of the Atta of Ebira.
In a report by R.L.Payne,District Officer Igbirra Devision in 1927,Adai Simpa Of Emani Clan was recorded as the Obobanyi of Ihima, residing than at Obeiba.
Administration:The 1st quarter report on Ebira Division 1932 indicated that there were five natural groups of Ebira people namely;Okengwe,Adavi,Eika,Ihima and Eganyi, the haed of each group being hereditary holder. The Obobanyi of Ihima is the hereditary throne of Emani clan who created the title.
    Post Indeoendance:
At the creation of Ebira Traditional Council in 1977,the Obobanyi of Ihima was pioneer member and in 1978,he was appointed by kwara state Government into the Land Allocation Advisory Committee of Okehi Local Government.
Soon after the creation of Kogi State in 1991,the Government of Colonel Danladi Zakari granted officila recognition to the stool of the Obobanyi of Ihima and appointed him a 2nd class tradtional ruler.
The Kogi state Government made a Law in 1992.The Law created five Area Traditional councils, one of which is Ebira Area traditional Council. The Obobanyi of Ihima is not only a member of this Council,he is also the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Traditional Council,as well as being a member of Kogi State Council of Chiefs.
The Obobanyi Of Ihima was inauguraret in 1994 as the statury Chairman of Okehi Locla Government Traditional Council,a post he held competently up till now.
In February 1999,the Obobanyi of Ihima was given official staff of office as a 2nd class Chief by the Kogi State Government.
We humbly call upon all Ebira sons and daughter to look into the matter of Ohi critically and clean it from Ebira history book.Lone live Obobanyi!Long live Ohinoyi and Long live Ebiraland.

  2. I read the distorted history of Ihima passed as comment on the Ebira video’s and it surprised me and many other readers why the faceless guy that posted the comment has chosen the internet and this web site to spread lies and rewrite the ancestral history of Ihima people. The issue contained on his comment has caused Ihima people to engage in wars for about eight (8) times between Nov. 2005 and April 2007 which led to several killings and destruction of properties worth several millions of naira. Presently peace has returned to Ihima and we don’t want this kind of faceless people who only use their means to cause problems in Ebira community to be using this web site to post sectional comments.
If your story is correct I urge you to go to Ihima and assemble all the clan heads and their subjects and present you cook up history to them, if they accept your new findings as you narrated them fine and good. But if they did not accept your flawed history don’t resort to arms to terrorize Ihima people for rejecting your story.
If you are really convinced that Ohi stool should be stopped why not simply go and convince Ohi of Ihima (who is also an Emani) to resign from his position. If he heeds your call for his resignation then you go and convince all the other Ohi’s in Okene, Adavi, Eika and Eganyi to follow the same path. If your story is true why is it that one of the sons of Obobanyi of Emani named Ojo residing in Kaduna contested for the post of Ohi of Ihima stool? He contested and lost to the incumbent because he was not even qualified by age not to talk of qualification which he has none.Leaders are chosen not by imposition as some people are trying futile efforts to do at Ihima. The origin of Ohi stool dated back to 1978 when the people of Ihima through their umbrella organization, the Ihima welfare association (IWA) met in Jos and agreed that there was need to have a single stool to be rotational among the six (6) original clans of Ihima whih includes Ure, Emani, Odumi, Ohueata, Ohionwa and Oha.It was meant to bring peace and a single representation to Ihima people. The report was later sent to the then government but could not be implemented not until 2007 which eventually cut across all Ebira land.

Ebira people are known to be republicans and are loyal to their various clan head without single authority as head till early 20th century when the British installed Alhaji Ibrahim as Atta of Ebira land as single authority to easy their administration of Ebira land. Several years’ later Ebira people revolted and the Atta of Ebira land was dethroned and went on exile.Sanni Omolori was chosen as the next ruler of Ebira land with the title changed from Atta to Ohinoyi of Ebira. If Ebira and all the communities within have no single authority as is written in our history books and as we all know, where then did the faceless guy got his cook up story that there is a single stool authority existing for about 300yrs in Ihima?
On the faulting of the legislation that made the Ohinoyi stool rotational, I also want to correct the wrong impression made there. If the stool is a royal stool only for the Atta family as you said in your comment was Sanni Omolori that succeeded Alhaji Ibrahim Atta a member of Ibrahim family? Sanni Omolori belongs to a different clan and family entirely. What the legislation only did was to formalize the original agreement that the stool rotate among all the children of Ebira land which is the five traditional districts in Ebira-land namely Ihima,Eika,Eganyi,Okengwe and adavi )

Also if your story is true why it is that Emani clan that is the only male descendant has no land in Ihima? All other clans Odumi, Ohionwa, Ohueta, Oha and Ure have substantial land in Ihima that belongs to their ancestors. In Ebira culture female children are not given landed properties if their parent dies. Then how comes that female children of Ihima descent now have lands and the male did not have? The History of Ihima and that of Ebira land is known by most Ebira people and nobody should be wasting his or her energy trying to rewrite them and using internet or other means to pass it.

The message I am passing to those that manage this website is to be weary of this kind of faceless Ebira people who should have been using their knowledge or means to uplift the image of Ebira people and making peace in the community but rather chose to be sectional causing problems among the various clans in Ihima and Ebira land. Any comment posted should be vetted before publishing it through this website. The comment that was suppose to be posted here is on the Ebira videos and for somebody to use it as an avenue of passing cook up story is shameful.

  4. Well your response to my article here is well taking. The only thing that i can tell you is that you dont have any knowledge about Ihima or that of Ebiraland.the people of Ihima are not disputing itweather the clan of Emani is the elder or the father of anihima itself, neither do the clan you are paid to write for had disputed that.Remember as its in other land all of us we came into this world one after the other.Ihima and Emani as it were, own all the land where all Anihima migrated from to this present location..The land where Govt.girls college Obangede is located, part of it belong to Anemani.land btw Oride to Ege,also own by anemani etc.Ohi elien to Ebira people,we accept as a temprary measure to tame down plan of those in power to be,what guys like you forget to realise is that power is transitional.Watch out we dont couse the war in Ihima but those who want to change history just because of their position in govt.actually did.they had thought to wage a war is all about arms and numbers of forces, war is all about strategies and plan. Now they have meet their waterlow.our base is pentagon,a thousand times if they came,we would always did what has to be done aginst invaders.Great Ochugas!May God save our able Obobanyi of Ihima and all Anihima.

  7. PEACE A VOICE OF WISDOM

Tao Anebira, It’s painful, incomprehensible and sad to note that the educated elite who are supposed to be in search for peace as our father land is constantly being destroyed are obviously part of the larger problems in Ebira land. We attended school to enable us to understand our environment along with its problems; cater for our immediate needs, like family, and also to contribute positively to our fatherland.
Ebira our ancestor was innocent of civilization but he was able to create a peaceful atmosphere for his children. Although the children have matured, educated and civilized they could not maintain peace with one another. How do we expect our ancestor to rest in peace when his children are now eating one another in day light? Anebira are all children of Ebira and so therefore, nobody can take anyone as a slave. In as much as a leopard does not change its spots nor can Ebira children be frightened into changing their name or their clan.
We should all be looking for peace in Ebira land. Let us search our minds and ask ourselves these basic questions. Which part do we belong to in Ebira history, the constructive part or the destructive part? Where is the popular wisdom we have in Ebira land? Who will serve as the angel of peace and ignore the evil calls? Do we still have martyrs in Ebira land? Where has the strong voice of Ebira students gone? Let them carry out a peaceful demonstration.
In this generation, how do we make our own history? At the end of this troubled state, what do we stand to gain? Why can’t we, because of the love we have for Ebira our ancestral father, resolve our crisis and love one another? How long are we going to live in violence? When are we going to rebuild Ebira together as we have fought together to destroy it? Who is the next victim? Where is our integrity or faith? Do we truly have the fear of God in our hearts? Are these the signs of the end of Ebira land?
Let all the Ebira outside and inside Nigeria, in North America, Europe, Japan, Russia, Asia and elsewhere, visit home in December 2008. We need to educate the school children about the negative effect of violence and also take time to visit the traumatized women. Make awareness our primary objective. Create a big town hall or museum which symbolizes our love, unity and peace as a community. A date should be set for a big rally to send our message across. Let us speak out and be part of the solution to this crisis. We do not have any other home land; we have to shoulder the responsibility together as a united force. A woman who gave birth to a cripple child should have a special method to carry it. The salvation of the entire community lies in our hands. History will be made by human beings that have empirical knowledge of their people and the world.

  8. i have scanned through the write ups of ihima and anonymous, and found that the adage that a monkey should not insult another monkey based on its appearance holds. its a pity that we are still finding it hard to speak peacefully to each other even on the web! nobody among us can give a true picture of our history, because oral traditions are usually prone to distortions both intentionally and unintentionally. even written history have been distorted along the years. as educated ebiras, tracing our history should be done objectively, being open to critics. i do agree that we should trace our history, because only a person who knows its origin can really know its expectations. but i do not see reason why what is pasted on the web should warrant the use of harsh words and insults, not to talk of people warring at home over whats on the net. for God's sake, the web is open to every body to say any thing .it is hi time we grow (become matured)in the way we handle things.

i got to know from oral history that our forefather ebira was a warrior. it is foolishness for us to now see fighting(both verbal and physical)as a life style. we are not the only ones with warrior fathers. to be the true children of our father, we must war in the present age using the present format; and this type of war is simply educational and technological advancement.

i will also wish to add that the present ebira man's (i mean women as well) problem is pride and unforgiveness. why must we always revenge, why can't we ignore some things. i mustn't forget to add that the way forward is to learn humility, yes humility can be learn. HUMILITY IS NOT WEAKNESS BUT GREAT STRENGTH UNDER CONTROL, COS IT TAKES A GREAT MAN TO CONTROL A COUNTRY BUT A GREATER(HUMBLE) MAN TO CONTROL SELF.

though i do not query any other points raised by both of you (because at the moment i have not made enough research to take sides), i do wish to disagree with anonymous point that female children don't inherit landed properties by our tradition. this idea is untrue and foreign, female children inherit landed properties, but don't inherit thrones. even Ebira's daughter Ohunene was given an inheritance with her brothers, i.e. the present day Eganyi.

i hope my few words will be taken objectively, and objective criticism is welcomed.

  9. I have just noticed that the article I had posted seeking for peace in Ebiraland has nothing to do with anonymous said...article posted on this site. My article was posted with my name below but in the process of sending it, I did press a button which indicated anonymous said... instead of skenno said... The only article I had posted so far is "peace a voice of wisdom".
May peace return to our home land in the name of God.

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte

The Obege legend

In the earliest generations when the art of magic was yet a myth to the people, there was born a boy into a family of hunters in the village of Eika - one of the six communities that comprised the ancestral groups. He was believed to have been born with a leaf in his hand and to the elders of then, that was prognostic of what he would be - a native healer. And had grown up performing wonders. His kinsmen were all hunters, they would deny the boy the opportunity to follow them hunting, purely on age ground - and he was really too young to go hunting in the forest. They would leave him in the house with the women as they set out on their hunting expedition. But they had meet the young Obege in the forest roasting a fair member of the forest’s game, all alone - and unarmed! The elders had to defer to this wonderful boy. Obege as an adult was more than human. His fame had spread all over the land: he was a healer of most seemingly incurable diseases, he was a rain maker, assumed more divin
