Okene Secondary School (OSS), lost to negligence

Ahead of Kogi MASS 2008, our team arrived Okene on Saturday, the 25th October 2008 for the final arrangement. While touring the town, we stopped by Okene Secondary School (O S S) to confirm a story sent on the current spate of the school by Usman Anibasa. See story here >>

A universal basic education (UBE) self help project, the only new structure around Okene Secondary School premises. The structures are for L.G.E.A School, Upogo Okene, built in 2006.

    It is disheartening to see my beloved school in this sordid state, I implore all old boys to please do something to salvage the situation.
    It is an absurdity for okene secondary school to face extinction while her contemporary Abdulaziz attah memorial college is up and running.
    I am open,available and willing to be counted as one the people who will be responsible for the rebirth of okene secondary school,
    Please remember our school anthem:LAND OF OUR BIRTH WE PLEDGED TO THEE
    LOVE AND TOIL YEARS TO BE.

ORIGIN OF THE FESTIVAL There are few accounts of how the festival started. However, the differences inthese accounts are not fundamental. Generally, Ireba Eku (masquerade cult) wasbelieved to have been formed under the divine instruction of God to check the excesses of women, apart from serving as ancestor worship. ORIGIN OF THE EBIRAS An elder beats the Agidibo to salute the spirits (Photo by EbiraView) Ebira Tao is the largest of the several Ebira groups found in about 8 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT). The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation.
