Oniwon Gets Home Support..As Okene Traditional Rulers Endorse His Appointment

Home support came the way of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Engr. Austen Oniwon over the weekend when the traditional ruler of Okene, his home town, the Ohi of Oke Ngwe/Okene, His Royal Highness Alhaji Yakubu Yusuf, led a team of traditional Chiefs to the NNPC Towers, Abuja, to declare support for the new GMD in his quest to transform the fortunes of the Corporation.

Clad in flowing Ebira traditional regalia, the Ohi paid tribute to the President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for deeming it fit to appoint Oniwon as the GMD of NNPC in this critical stage of reforms in the oil and gas industry. He pledged the full support of the Ebira people in ensuring that the GMD succeeds in his mandate of transforming the NNPC to a reputable world class national oil company.

Welcoming the traditional ruler and his team to the NNPC Towers, Engr. Oniwon pledged to ensure that youths of Kogi State like their counterparts from other parts of the country benefit immensely from the planned construction of a Greenfield Refinery in the State.

Recently, the NNPC signed a $28 billion MoU with the Chinese National Engineering and Construction Corporation to source for contractor financing for the construction of three brand new refineries and a Petrochemicals plant. The Refineries will be sited in Kogi, Lagos and Bayelsa States.

The GMD implored the traditional rulers to mobilize the local communities to provide the conducive atmosphere in good time for the planned project, adding that youths from the area stand to benefit immensely.

One Injured As Masqueraders Clash With Soldiers in Okene

Heavy gunshots rang through the town of Okene today when followers of a popular masquerade engaged in a violent confrontation with men of the Nigerian Army. An eye witness who spoke with EbiraView Media on condition of anonymity narrated the trail of event that led to the violent clash. Acoording to the eye witness accounts, trouble started when a soldier in mufti was accosted in Okene town and was beaten by a masquerade known as Akamawu from Kuroko community of Adavi local government. The soldier was said to have reported the encounter to his colleagues guarding CCECC expatriates staff yard around  Inoziomi area. EbiraView Media further gathered that as the masquerade and the followers approached the Inoziomi community, they were ambushed by the military men around Kahal Cinema area and then started firing into the air to disperse the crowd before descending on the masquerade.
