Go out and register – Ohinoyi calls on Anebira

The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM (Dr.) Ado Ibrahim has called on Ebiras to go out enmasse to register for the forthcoming general election. He made the call while addressing Ebira women at the Atta’s palace recently.

His royal majesty emphasized the need for mass registration as soon as the exercise commences, stressing that only registered voters can vote come 2011 general election.
Praising the women for their unrelenting motherly role, Ado Ibrahim said the peace recorded during the past months would not be possible without the active role played by the women in ensuring sustainable peace in the community.
In a remark, he commended the recent courtesy call on his palace by Ebira political aspirants. He assured the people of peaceful conduct of elections across the land. He, however, promised to embark on a house to house campaign with his royal aides to encourage appreciable turnout in the voters registration exercise.
“I am particularly grateful for the overwhelming turnout of the women today. I implore all of you to turn out like this to register when the registering exercise commences. We can not be victorious at the polls without voting our choice candidates. Soon, I will be moving around with my aides to educate people about this” he said.
On his part, the Asema Uka Clan Alhaji (Chief) M.S Isah hailed the harmonious coexistence of politicians in the community. He made reference to the recent sallah festival where some non-muslim politicians joined their muslim counterparts at the Eid prayer in held in Okene.
It could be recalled that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently announced voters’ registration date as commencing from January 28th 2010.

The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation.
