Rehabilitation work on the damaged Okene-Lokoja highway has commenced today.
The federal roads maintenance agency (FERMA) has responded to the repeated appeals by concerned groups to relevant authorities to come to save the community from the untold suffering the damages on the road has caused the generality of the people in the area and the travellers in particular.
The contractor, CGC construction Company have been granted permission to use the premises of GSS Ogaminana as the site office as work commences on the road that has become notorious for overstretched traffic gridlock and horrible accidents in recent time.
Dr. Abdulrahman Adeiza, National President of Ebira Peoples Association (EPA) has consistently followed up with FERMA to actualise the assurance it gave a delegation led by the Ebira apex association to the road maintenance agency's headquarters last month in Abuja.
During the meeting, FERMA chairman, Engr. Jide Adeniyi assured the six-man delegation that the damaged road will be rehabilitated before the Yuletide period so as to forestall the repeat of traffic hitches witnessed on the road and ensure unhindered traffic flow for commuters throughout the festive period.
EYC President General, Cmr. Mamman Sheik went on an assessment tour of the project today.
Mamman said that while some parts of the road have been graded by the workers, the most troubled spots on the highway particularly the PetrolJust filling station axis is yet to receive attention.
Comrade Sheik, however, said that he discussed with the team leader on site on the need to put up palliative measures to ensure free traffic flow as the project lasted.
