Ajaokuta: PDP Youth Group Alleges Indiscriminate Arrests

Bello Lokoja — A youth group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Youth Vanguard, has threatened to take legal action against the police over "indiscriminate arrest" of its members in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state. President of PDP Youth Vanguard, Ajaokuta chapter, Comrade Irikiti James Irikiti, said yesterday in Lokoja that the arrests were politically-motivated. "We are using this medium to draw the attention of the Inspector General, Mr. Suleiman Abba and the state commissioner of police to the indiscriminate arrests of some PDP members in Ajaokuta, based on a petition said to have been written by a lawmaker, alleging the kidnap of his mother", he said. Responding, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Elvis Aguebor, said they are not involved in the political or indiscriminate arrest of anyone. He said the commissioner of police has warned his officer to steer clear of politics. Source: Daily Trust.

Adoke Pays WAEC Fees for Students in Kogi Central

By Ismail M. Kabir Muhammed Adoke (SAN) The Attorney General of the federation, Hon. Muhammed Adoke (SAN) has promised to pay the WAEC fees of Secondary school students   in Kogi central currently preparing for their final exams. He made the declaration at the PDP stakeholders meeting recently held at the FCE Okene. Adoke made the promise in response to the plea from parents who besieged the venue of the programme to solicit the support of the Justice Minister following the announcement by the Kogi state governor, Capt. Idris Wada that the state government would not be able to pay for the students this year. The state government has been responsible for the payment of the WAEC fees for the students across the state. Abatemi-Usman condemns call for election postponement

Senator Nurudeen Abatemi The Kogi Central Senatorial candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman has described the call for the postponement of the general elections billed to hold on February 14 and 28, 2015 as completely unnecessary, warning that such action should not be contemplated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on media and publicity, Michael Jegede, the Senator who recently defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to PPA, said the consequence of any delay beyond the already stipulated dates for the polls will be too grave to imagine. Chinese, Nigerian firms to cooperate on reviving steel plant

A consortium of Chinese and Nigerian firms was to revamp the Ajaokuta Steel Plant in central Nigeria with projected annual production of 2 million tons of steel within the first two years of takeover. The Chairman of Henan Taihang Quanli Heavy Industry Group, Huang Quanli, revealed this in Abuja on Monday at the public presentation of the consortium. He said a consortium, made up of Total Steel Ltd of Nigeria and Henan Taihang Quanli Heavy Industry Group, was formed to take over and deliver quick results in steel production in the long suspended plant. "We have visited the Ajaokuta Plant and we are impressed with the condition of equipment, which has been well preserved over the 30 years of non-productivity," said Huang, adding Ajaokuta Steel Plant has met all the required standards of a steel plant but "regrettably the plant is wasting due to non-completion." By: Olumide (Information Nigeria) A young woman, Miss Grace Ebiloma, who was on her way from a vigil was gang-defiled by hoodlums in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. The lady was said to be on her way home from the church when the hoodlums seized her and dragged her into the bush where they allegedly defiled her. Leadership Newspaper report: According to a statement by the evangelist Enechojo Agene of Uleju Ojo Power House Ministry, the lady had gone to a nearby structure opposite the church to rest after the vigil, when the hoodlums struck, defiling and killing her. Ajaokuta, Delta Steel Company to Begin Production in 2015, Says Official

Minister of of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Mohammed Sada The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development on Monday  said the Light Section Mill (LSM) of the Ajaokuta and Delta Steel companies would commence production in 2015. The Director of Steel and Non-Ferrous Metals Department in the ministry, Mr. Abdullahi Also, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. He said both companies had signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with different private investors on billet conversion to iron rods and other steel materials. “The private investors will bring their billet and convert it to iron rods. Ibrahim Momohjimoh (Daily Times), Lokoja The Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, Professor Adams Abere, has identified lack of ethical values as the major problem militating against the growth and development of Ebira ethnic group of Kogi State. In a key note address, at the 12th edition of Ebira National Youth Summit, over the weekend, in Okene, the headquarters of Central Senatorial district of the state, Abere said until Ebira-speaking people resolved to go embrace, anew, age-long ethical values of hard work, courageous virtue, vitality among others, Ebira nation may continue to dwell in a perpetual decline in both infrastructure and human capital development. Abere, who also blamed the current backwardness of the land on the crops of politicians from the area.
