An aspirant for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi State,
on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Nurudeen
Abatemi-Usman has called on Muslim faithful to use the Holy Month of
Ramadan to pray for the continuous peaceful co-existence and unity of
the country.
Abatemi-Usman who represented Kogi Central Senatorial District in the
Red Chamber of the seventh National Assembly made the call in a
Ramadan message signed by his media adviser, Michael Jegede.
According to the former Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta
Affairs, peace is an essential ingredient in a country seeking for
rapid growth and development.
He stated further that Nigeria needed prayers more than ever before,
to seek God's guidance and direction for the recently inaugurated
government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, who had
promised to make a difference in governance and positively impact on
the lives of the Nigerian people.
The Kogi governorship aspirant urged every Muslim to endeavour to have
the fear of God and live a virtuous life worthy of emulation
throughout the month of Ramadan and beyond.
"We thank God for making it possible for us to see another period of
Ramadan. I call on my fellow brothers and sisters in Islam to pray for
the peace and unity of our great country, Nigeria during this period.
We need peace and unity to continue to live as one people, one nation.
Therefore, one of our main prayer points in this year's Ramadan should
be for peace to prevail in our dear country. We must also pray for the
new government in place led by President Muhammadu Buhari for God to
guide and direct him as he settles down to begin to effect the change
he promised Nigerians prior to his election. My fellow Muslim brothers
and sisters, we are expected to be God-fearing and live righteously
during this period of Ramadan and thereafter," Abatemi-Usman said in
his message.
