A commercial
driver has lost his life to a bullet wound sustained this morning from high way
robbers along Ajaokuta road, Kogi state
The deceased
driver was reportedly conveying traders to a local market when their vehicle, a
mini Golf car was waved down by fierce looking men numbering over 20, wielding
sophisticated weapons.
One of the
robbery victims who preferred anonymity gave account of the robbery incidence
which occurred around Idapokoko village at the Adu axis of the Ajaokuta highway.
According to
the source, “the robbers ordered all the passengers out of the vehicle,
dispossessed us of our money and other items before shooting the driver on the
head”.
The driver, identified
as Ojo Umar was rushed to the emergency ward of Okene general hospital where he
eventually gave up the ghost at about 10:00am this morning.
The victim, Ojo
Umar hailed from Ebogogo in Adavi local government area of Kogi state.
Sympathizers
have been flocking the hospital to console the wife of the driver, a heavily
pregnant woman who collapsed when the news of her husband’s death was broken by
the officials of the hospital.
It could be
recalled that the Okene-Ajaokuta highway have been notorious for its frequent
armed robbery operations where helpless motorists fall victims almost on
daily basis.
