A top contender for the ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC) inthe forthcoming governorship poll in Kogi State, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has picked the party nomination form ahead of the primary election scheduled to hold on August 29, 2015.
Speaking through his media adviser, Michael Jegede, in a statement issued after obtaining his form on Monday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Abatemi-Usman said he joined the gubernatorial
race to salvage Kogi State from the utter state of backwardness it has been since its creation about twenty-four years ago.
“We have been so unfortunate in Kogi State since it was created on August 27, 1991. We have never been lucky to have good leaders in the helms of affairs. And so, we have been in a complete state of backwardness and retardation in terms of infrastructural and economic development. Those who had been privileged to be at the corridors of power in the state lacked the vision and foresight of how to bring about the overall advancement of our dear Kogi State. This is why I am coming out on the platform of our great party, APC to take over Kogi from the hands of this incompetent set of people who have left us in this sorry state of outright underdevelopment where Kogites cannot be proud of their own state. We cannot continue like this. The time for change in Kogi State has come,” Abatemi-Usman maintained.
The 44-year-old governorship aspirant expressed confidence that he would win the primary poll and become the candidate of APC for the guber election holding on November 21, 2015.
According to him, his optimism is anchored on the decision of the leadership of the party to create a level playing field for all the contestants, without penciling down anybody as the anointed candidate.
He said: “The decision of the party to be neutral and dispassionate is highly commendable and an indication that APC is indeed a party built on change where transparency, fairness, equity and justice will be seen to have always prevailed in all its activities.”
Abatemi-Usman, who has been meeting with different groups of APC members at the grassroots across the length and breadth of Kogi State, urged delegates for the primary election not to allow anybody to deceive them with any form of inducement. He noted that leadership qualities, past records, political experience and pedigree of the aspirants should be put into consideration in deciding who they cast their votes for in the primary poll.
