TRIBUNAL UPHOLDS OHIARE’S ELECTORAL VICTORY

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja on Monday 12.10.2015 at 3.40pm upheld the election of Senator (Dr.) Mohammed Salami Ohiare in the March 28 2015 Kogi Central Senatorial Elections. In a Unanimous Judgement read by the tribunal chairman Justice Akon Ikpeme, the tribunal dismissed Honorable Ahmed Ogembe’s petition challenging the return of Ohiare as the duly elected Senator for lack of merit.

Reacting to the Judgement, Senator Ohiare said: ‘’Once again, the Judiciary has proved beyond any reasonable doubts that it is truly independent, and has remained the last hope of the common man in this country. The Judiciary has reaffirmed that the good people of Kogi Central freely and overwhelmingly voted for me and my great party APC, and no one can steal that mandate through the back door”. He went down memory lane to the days when as a young civil servant in the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), he was victimized and dismissed for being bold enough to expose his superiors of corrupt practices, he sought redress by suing the then Government and the Judiciary stood by him and reinstated him back to work – This was under a Military administration.

He went on to say: “I want to use this opportunity to thank my teeming supporters and numerous admirers for their steadfastness during the trial, and magnanimously call on my opponents to join hands with me to move our dear Senatorial district to the next positive level. May Allah continue to bless our dear Ebiraland and the entire Federation, and May He continue to strengthen our Judiciary with Courageous Men and Women that will resist all temptations and deliver justice to the common man”.

Signed:
Mohammed Sadiq (SA Media)

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte...
