POWER SHIFT AND THE ENEMIES WITHIN

By Abdulkareem Gaminana

The struggle for power equation ,power rotation or whatever nomenclature you choose to call it has been on for as long as Kogi state is in existence.

This struggle is as a result of uneven distribution of resources , lopsided appointment to favour a particular axis of the state , underdevelopment of other parts of the state and so on.

The events that culminate in the eventual election of Alhaji Yahaya Bello of APC as the Governor of Kogi state is an act of God and we pray Allah to forgive Prince Abubakar Audu and accept his soul into paradise (Ameen ).

There has been series of agitation from many quarters as to the rightful owner of the APC ticket vis-a-vis the Governorship seat. While Hon Abiodun Faleke  has exercise his rights by going to court via tribunal, we expect him to obey party supremacy on the long run and tow the line of honour. Gov Wada too has gone to the tribunal which is expected (he came second in the election and he's still hungry for power ).

The crux of this write up is the enemies within who are working against the collective interest of Anebiras. I'm referring to the Governorship candidate of Labour Party Chief Philip Omeiza Salawu (POS )and the Governorship candidate of Progressive Peoples Alliances(PPA, Emmanuel Enesi Ozigi.

Their combined votes in the last governorship election was barely above 11,000 , yet PPA candidate was calling total cancellation of the electoral process after the death of Abubakar Audu and asking INEC to restart the process. I asked his campaign team then 'To whose advantage would the cancellation be? Can Enesi win even if he was unopposed? Who are his pay masters? They assured me he was misquoted and they would do the needful. I was made to understand that POS asked people to support AYB for the supplementary election through Tao FM.

Well, I want to bring to the notice of the public that Philip Salawu and Enesi Ozigi  are REAL ENEMIES WITHIN as they have challenged the election of Alhaji Yahaya Bello in court! The Labour party is In Court as well as PPA challenging our historic victory. My question is; can the parties be in court without the consent of their candidates? What does these parties and their aspirants have to gain from the court/tribunal?  Why has POS and Enesi connived with the devil to do this? Even if they were not consulted by their parties before going to court(I doubt very much), why can't they come out to tell us the true picture?

My people, those of you closed to these men should talk to them and make them see reasons why they should retrace their steps IMMEDIATELY.  We are using this first piece to sound warning to them. We would not keep quiet while some few elements in our midst would trade our collective victory for a morsel of porridge.

A word is enough for the wise.

Ekuechi Festival Of Ebiraland

ORIGIN OF THE FESTIVAL There are few accounts of how the festival started. However, the differences inthese accounts are not fundamental. Generally, Ireba Eku (masquerade cult) wasbelieved to have been formed under the divine instruction of God to check the excesses of women, apart from serving as ancestor worship. Myth has it that aftercreating man and woman as husband and wife, one day God sent for the man but hewas too busy to honour the call. Instead, he requested his wife to heed God’s call onhis behalf. God gave her Irakwo (an egg-like object that contains the secrets of lifeand has the capacity to manifest supernatural powers) for her husband. Having dis-coveredits contents and being fascinated by them, she hid it in her uterus and laterswallowed it without giving it to her husband. She thereafter became quite powerful, performing supernatural feats as turning into any animal and changing back to ahuman being. She could instantly grow wings to fly around in astral travels. She al...

Sketch History of Ebira (Itopa Ebira)

ORIGIN OF THE EBIRAS An elder beats the Agidibo to salute the spirits (Photo by EbiraView) Ebira Tao is the largest of the several Ebira groups found in about 8 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT). The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation. In about 1680 AD, they (along with the Idoma and Igala) migrated out of Wukari a chieftaincy dispute. The Ebira later split into various groups and settled in different locations between 1680 and 1750 AD. The Eb...
