Kogi Governorship Inauguration: Group calls for tight security Beef Up

The Federal Government has been urged to beef up security ahead of the Kogi State of the swearing in ceremony of governor-elect, Yahaya Bello.

This follows reports some groups opposed to the election, including some from his All Progressives Congress (APC), were planning to disrupt the event scheduled for Lokoja towards the end of the month.

ā€œThere is speculation within the the nooks and crannies of the state that some groups are planning to disrupt the inaugural ceremony of the governor elect,ā€ said Ahmed Lukman Omeiza, Chairman Nigerian Community in Ukraine.

He said the proposed violence is coming from the group rebelling against the candidate of Bello as the substitute for late Abubakar Audu.

The move to replace Audu with Bello, instead of James Falake, the deceasedā€™s running mate ahead of the first round of polls, has been a source of tensions within the PAC.

Omeiza said the youths of the eastern senatorial district had consistently maintained there would be no peace during the inaugural ceremony if Falake was not considered a substitute for Audu.
The majority of the APC leaders across the country, supporters of the party within the length and breadth of the state and as well friends of the governor elect from other countries are expected at the inauguration ceremony.

ā€œI wish to call on the Inspector General of Police, commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Chief of Army Staff to provide adequate security for the mammoth crowd that will be coming to witness the inaugural ceremony,ā€ said Omeiza.

ā€œThe Federal Government is advised on this note to beef up the security of the state so as to avoid unnecessary violence that may later result in casualty. No individual or group of individuals should hold this country to ransom under any disguise.ā€

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte...
