NOTICE OF SUSPENSION OF HON. ILYAS ISAH FROM OFFICE AS THE ACTING CHAIRMAN OF OKEHI LGA

NOTICE OF SUSPENSION OF HON. ILYAS ISAH FROM OFFICE AS THE ACTING CHAIRMAN OF OKEHI LOCAL GOVERNMENT OVER ALLEGATION OF MISCONDUCT AND FINANCIAL IMPROPRIETY.

The Okejhi Local Government Legislative Council in its plenary held on 25th January, 2016 has suspended Hon. Ilyas Isah from the office of Acting Chairman, with immediate effect.

The suspension of Hon. Ilyas Isah by the Okehi Local government legislative Council is based on the following allegation of misconduct and financial impropriety:-

i. That he failed to comply with the resolution of the Okehi Legislative Council ordering him, the DLG and Treasurer to appear before the Legislative Council to explain the income and expenditure of Okehi Local Government from June, 2015 to December, 2015 in violation of Section 10 (4) of the Kogi State Local Government Law, 2000.

ii. That he paid 25% salary to workers of Okehi Local Government amounting to N19 Million out of N76 Million allocated to Okehi LG in November, 2015, thereby misappropriating the remaining N57 Million in violation of hid Oath of office as Acting Chairman as contained in Schedule 3 of the Kogi State Local Government Law, 2000.

iii. That he paid 10% salary to Okehi Local Government workers amounting to N7.6 Million out of N35 Million allocated of Okehi Local Government in December, 2015, thereby embezzled N27 Million in violation of his Oath of office as Acting Chairman of Okehi Local Government.
His suspension is pending investigation by the Legislative Council into the allegations.

He has been ordered to handover all the properties of Okehi Local Government to the Council Leader of the Local Government, subject to investigation by the appropriate authority.

The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation.
