Yahaya Bello: EQUITY, PEACE AND INTELLIGENCE

By Solomon Onuvaiye

IT MUST be on record that His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello is the fountain of leadership equity in Nigeria. True to his inaugural speech, Governor Yahaya belongs to NO one and belongs to ALL. His breaking the jinx had translated to many facets. He is the first elected governor from the central of Kogi state. He's the first to execute successful power shift from the East. He is also the first to dash the juiciest and most security conscious appointment to a native far from his own. His benefactors disposition to such genuinty is one thing that should score GYB's confidence on his sole opinion. The chief of staff's hullabaloo may not die so easily if its translating into sentimental empowerment widening the gap we so desire to close. I hope his choice is so wise enough to fill the round holes with a round peg.

Our amiable Governor is also undoubtedly a man of peace. What will you say of his flowing milk of words following the demolition of the shrine infected round about. With an apology to the shrine owners, he enthusistical said that, Kogi has to wear a new look. Of note is the swift acceptance to conduct rerun elections axing his party men. Yesterday, the Supreme Court seemed seeing a cobwebs on the entrance of justice. Some governors in the South whose party men were to suffer this same axing seemed to have fought the INEC to a halt. The elections were not held insisting that INEC had no locus standing to exclude their party candidates while ours had been inaugurated. This is peace at work. If the courts ended up declaring the elections null and void and probably recall his axed party men, could our peace accord be heroic? Yesterday also, the NASS also defy court case instituted by the recalcitrant law makers who borrowed the erstwhile governors forum almighty formula to impeach Hon. Momohjimoh as speaker. I cherish how synonymous is our governor to equity and peace. We can't be governor and yet be speaker. But this also failed with itchy consequences. The National Assembly had inaugurated their members to take charge of the legislation of Kofi state why those we voted for need to go on leave and wait for monthly alerts for work not done. Sadly, the federal legislators constituting the committee as our current legislators are mostly from the west. These ones are Falake's padipadi. This legislators will definitely lack the sentiment the governor will need from his brother to have his ways on some issues. Seem like His Excellency had sold his peace to buy troubles because as it is, Falake by proxy may be cutting the shots using his relationship with Gbajabiamila. This is a strong return of Lagos connection into Kogi politics. Hmmmm.

I think our elders in politics still have roles to play. If you get them bruised, they may face the healing processes while they leave his Excellency to fully enjoy his new found love.

INTELLIGENTLY, our governor had visited some state governors. This is the way to build virile relationships. I think the media had not performed well in reporting his visits to appreciate those that have sacrificed one way or the other to cement his choice at the rerun. While we pray for him we should also talk to his Excellency. Just like marriage, in politics, if you don't appreciate and admire your spouse how charming he or she looks, someone out there will say it. Such might spell doom. In football game, those in bench take laurel when victory is sealed. Does the effort of those we found at the National Secretariat slogging it out against the interest of Lagos politics at the point of seeking replacement for the dead candidate of APC then really matters? Truth most be told and facts must be made straight. This recent unecessary inviation of NASS members to take over of Kogi Assembly is one mistake too many.

ITS too early to scale His Excellency's performance. Its also too early to find our dear governor gracing the news for the wrong reasons. What is actually wrong in Hon. Momohjimohs speakership? A man from different party who had been serving before GYB's aspiration. Which is now best? National Assembly's legislation or Momohjimoh's speakership?

No matter the sort of equity he intend to promote, we also need a cushion of the effect of the past rape on the world of equity. We also want His Excellency to unite Anebira and rever those he need to. Its also paramount for the governor to ensure that his party is strengthened than he met it. Some South governors had insisted rhe inclusion of their party candidates and for that reason electionns were kept on hold. Our Excellency should ensure a water tight relatioship with all stakeholders in the manner our stone aged fathers safeguards all strands of roofing leaf so as to prevent leackage. Fighting at all front may not help. Four years is short.

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte

The Obege legend

In the earliest generations when the art of magic was yet a myth to the people, there was born a boy into a family of hunters in the village of Eika - one of the six communities that comprised the ancestral groups. He was believed to have been born with a leaf in his hand and to the elders of then, that was prognostic of what he would be - a native healer. And had grown up performing wonders. His kinsmen were all hunters, they would deny the boy the opportunity to follow them hunting, purely on age ground - and he was really too young to go hunting in the forest. They would leave him in the house with the women as they set out on their hunting expedition. But they had meet the young Obege in the forest roasting a fair member of the forest’s game, all alone - and unarmed! The elders had to defer to this wonderful boy. Obege as an adult was more than human. His fame had spread all over the land: he was a healer of most seemingly incurable diseases, he was a rain maker, assumed more divin
