A splinter group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State had yesterday faulted the vote of no confidence passed on Governor Yahaya Bello by some executive members of the party. Deputy state women leader of the party, Deborah Oyiza Isuguzo, who addressed newsmen alongside other members of the group, debunked the allegations that the governor was not carrying the party along, adding that they are behind the governor.
According to the group, the purported vote of no confidence passed on Bello was the handiwork of the APC deputy governorship candidate in the last election, James Abiodun Faleke.
But Faleke, speaking through his media aide, Duro Meseko, had denied hands in the sharp division between the APC and the governor.
“We hereby reiterate once again that Hon Faleke has no hand in the vote of no confidence passed on Yahaya Bello by more than 99 percent of the state Exco. From what we know, the state Exco is peopled by patriotic men and women of integrity.”
The deputy women leader said Bello had contributed
‘greatly’ to the success of the party before he became
governor of the state, and had been supporting the party since he assumed office.
“We want to put it on record that ever before he became the governor of the state, he contributed greatly to the campaign of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, which led to the success of his election in the state.
“He provided a brand new hummer bus for the state
executive and also paid two years’ rent for the office
accommodation of the party to the tune of five million
naira,” she said.
She said Bello had recently released N1, 380, 000 to the
party chairman through the state’s APC assistant women leader, to offset outstanding salaries of secretariat staff and other needs.
She said there was nothing wrong with the governor
appointing competent Kogi people to turn around the
fortunes of the state, which had suffered misrule and
underdevelopment in the last 16 years.
