Sequel to Gov. Yahaya Bello's victory at the supreme court on Monday, a patriotic Kogi citizen, Dr. Suleiman Omuya Abdulrahman in his congratulatory message has admonished Kogi State government to mount it's guard and fastrack its policy implementation while being conscious of the limited time available to the administration as it rides through the second term in office.
Dr. Abdulrahman gave the admonition as a personal contribution to Gov. Yahaya Bello's media briefing after the supreme court Judgement (Yahaya Bello Speaks After Victory, Unveils Plans For Kogi State https://youtu.be/y5Rn_g59XnM).
The opinion reads:
"The pronouncement has been made. The electoral victory is affirmed as contained in the unanimous judgement of the supreme court justices.
"Only a few may be surprised. Maybe out of deep seated and/or passionate sentiment or mere hope against hope. Beyond that, in this COVID-19 constrained economy, another rerun even if indicated would be another burden too much. I'm not sure even the citizens and residents of the State would be pleased with a possible repeat of the events of November 2019.
"Hopefully all parties to the election through judicial processes, beginning with the now incontroverted winner, will now see reason to give the interest of the state and masses the much desired attention. I never considered the entire judicial process much of a distraction because the outcome seemed obvious from the beginning. One can never be too sure though. But if it was, it has come to an expected end.
"While the favoured politicians continue in their show of gratitude and celebration, I guess the conscientious electorates can start their own reflection with this clip! The politicians not so favoured by this development may join in this reflection. While doing that we need remember that virile and responsible opposition is the beauty of democracy. Constructive engagement is best form of support any government can enjoy from the populace; party men, political associate and opposition(s) alike. This include critical appraisal of government policies, actions and inactions. I believe this reality is not lost on His Excellency and his entire team in the New Direction. This will positively add onto the spirit of EBIGO espoused by the government in the run up to the last election. Appropriately applied, this however shouldn't preclude their respective preparation for the next round of elections, with the solemn hope that the dynamics will improve positively and allow for a more balanced contest.
"To my brethren on the political tuff favoured by this pronouncement, congratulations is the routine expectations. But from me, it is prayers for divine guidance in the onerous task ahead. I equally wish you all, divine protection from evil whispers and human deceits in whatever guise from within or without. The good Lord continue to bless your efforts.
"But remember, our conscience in its pure state is the universal divine standard and guidance the almighty has blessed every individual with. Ali bn Abu Talib calls it our individual divine book. Posterity they say, is the best judge.
