NUJ KOGI STATE CONFERS "ICON OF QUALITY SERVICE DELIVERY AWARD" ON ENGR. OHERE (FNSE)

It was spectacular moment in the city of Lokoja, capital city of Kogi State following the conferement of prestigious award on one of Kogi's finest Honourable Commissioner, Hon. (Engr.) Abubakar Ohere (FNSE), Honourable Commissioner for Works and Housing.

The award presented by Mr. Chris Isiguzo, the National President of NUJ was conferred on the First Class Commissioner as a result of his displayed commitment and passion in carrying out the new direction policies of His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on quality infrastructures across the state. Put succinctly, Ohere as a true ambassador of His Excellency has consistently maintained balanced commitment and performance since the inception of this administration in 2016.

Ohere while dedicating the award to Gov. Yahaya Bello said "natural talent only determines where you start. It is dedication and discipline in your life that makes you great." Aside dedicating this award to the “real” trail blazer, it further justifies the mental capacity of our presidential GYB on task execution strategy.

Reiterating the commitment of the GYB-led administration in doing more for the good people of Kogi State, the First Class Commissioner said "an informed society is the best weapon against climate change. And this is where journalists play a crucial role by informing and raising awareness among the people."

Elaborating on the negative effects of the media especially by opposition elements, Ohere commended the Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists towards upholding the virtuous and ethics of their profession. "The media continues to play crucial role in educating and making individuals, communities, and society conscious about sustainable development, the need for more sustainable patterns of production and consumption, and encouraging them to take action directed towards change and a more sustainable future. The government of Alh. Yahaya Bello is forever prepared in doing more for the good people of Kogi State and this is more realised when the media sends accurate information to the people."

The First Class Commissioner Ohere is an indelible footprint on the sand of time as an irrepressible icon of quality service delivery and instrument of change.

A Fellow of Nigeria Society of Engineers, Rural and Urban Developer, Grassroots Mobiliser, Partisan Politician and Trail Blazer, Astute Disciplinarian, Honourable Commissioner and Hajj Caliphate, The First Class Commissioner Ohere has created in the minds of average Nigerians, a balanced gap within representing and being led. Perfectly, he held the fact that great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence, no wonder the number of remarkable awards coming his way.

The overriding characteristics of Commissioner Ohere all lies on the fact of proving himself as the Commissioner we never had hence bringing out a concept which says leadership is not about titles, positions, or flow charts. It is about one life influencing another.

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte

The Obege legend

In the earliest generations when the art of magic was yet a myth to the people, there was born a boy into a family of hunters in the village of Eika - one of the six communities that comprised the ancestral groups. He was believed to have been born with a leaf in his hand and to the elders of then, that was prognostic of what he would be - a native healer. And had grown up performing wonders. His kinsmen were all hunters, they would deny the boy the opportunity to follow them hunting, purely on age ground - and he was really too young to go hunting in the forest. They would leave him in the house with the women as they set out on their hunting expedition. But they had meet the young Obege in the forest roasting a fair member of the forest’s game, all alone - and unarmed! The elders had to defer to this wonderful boy. Obege as an adult was more than human. His fame had spread all over the land: he was a healer of most seemingly incurable diseases, he was a rain maker, assumed more divin
