10 Years Anniversary: Proudly Anebira Group Holds Special Prayers At Okene Jumuat Service

As part of activities to mark it's 10th Years Anniversary, Proudly Anebira group held a special prayer at the jumuat service today in Okene.

The prayer which was led by the acting Chief Imam of Ebiraland, Ustaz Muhammed Rasheed was attended by Muslim members of the group amidst the congregation that observed the jumuat prayer.

The acting Chief Imam prayed for God's sustained blessings on the group for their commitment to the growth and development of Ebiraland.

While enjoining the group to continue their good services to the community, the congregation equally used the opportunity to pray for security, peace and progress of Ebiraland.

Proudly Anebira group which was founded on May 27th 2002 is celebrating its 10 years of existence as a  congregation of various groups and associations with the common goal of promoting the good culture of brotherliness, love and unity among Ebira people across the world.

Other programs lined up for the 10 years anniversary include a Gala Night/Award Ceremony holding on Saturday in Abuja. The event will be followed by a christian thanksgiving session on Sunday at the Christ The King church in Okene.

ORIGIN OF THE EBIRAS An elder beats the Agidibo to salute the spirits (Photo by EbiraView) Ebira Tao is the largest of the several Ebira groups found in about 8 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT). The other sister groups are Egbura Koto and Ebira Mozum (Kogi state), Ebira Panda, Ebira Oje/Toto (Nassarawa state), Ebira Etuno (Edo state), Ebira Agatu (Benue state) Ebira Oloko (Ondo/Oyo/Osun states). Written records about the origin of the Ebira people were those compiled from palace sources by the British colonial administrators in early 20th century. The Ebira, through oral tradition, trace their descent to Wukari (in the present Taraba state) where they were a constituent part of the Kwararafa confederation.
