THE EPIC GOLD MEDAL FROM ABDULMUMEEN

Written by Noble Onoshovwe

At the turn of this century, when men were talking about millennium bug, Y2K scare, and glitch, Providence was putting together a unique gift to humanity. And to further stun the human race that amidst it's shortcomings and imperfections, something near perfect, a genius with utmost humility that will impact humanity positively is here, he was birthed on the first day of April 2000, and since then, the beautiful journey had begun.

Abdulmumeen Jimoh, the enigma of our time, is from Okene, Kogi state, and just like the meaning of the state's name in Hausa, Mumeen is flowing a river of blessings into the state. In 2017, he emerged the champion in the youth category at the Prestigious Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classic. He was also chosen to represent Nigeria at World Youth Games in Australia in 2018, but missed it due to delay in paper works. For a promising young man currently serving the nation in National Youth Service Corps, Mumeen is determined and full of vision. Quite deft at the game of scrabble, just as he has excelled academically, having graduated with a distinction in Biochemistry from Nasarawa Polytechnic.

Interestingly, before leaving for the National Sports Festival, tagged Delta 2022, hear him....."I am impressed with what our governor is doing in the educational sector, I want him to replicate same in Sports, so I am going to win gold medal, to win his heart to sports"....He said it, and did accomplished it. In a star-studded field, with players of repute, Abdulmumeen rode to victory, clinching a gold medal, and becoming the first athlete to win gold medal for Kogi at the Festival. It was a river of joy, with thunderous celebration from fellow teammates and other teams that have great love for a brilliant young man.
Presently, some states are without medal, but Mumeen have made Kogi proud with not just a mere medal, but a gold medal at that. For one gold medal is of much more value than a thousand silver medal or a million bronze medal. The golden boy of Kogi has once again etched his name in gold in the annals of history in a state bordering ten other states, and has opened the floodgate for great things in sports for Kogi.
Truly, Abdulmumeen deserves a white carpet reception, a state honour, for he has done the state proud, putting his name and that of the state in the golden slot of the medal table. Tomorrow, when the story of sports achievements in Kogi, Nigeria is being told, the name Abdulmumeen Jimoh will be mentioned with glowing smile, and a deep sense of fulfillment for his people, a source of inspiration to the coming generation. Mumeen is not just an A student, but an outstanding sportsman.
Ceremoniously, the governor and people of Kogi state should converge as in a confluence for Mumeen as he triumphantly return home in grand style. Mumeen is a hero, an Icon, and should be celebrated as such. For the tributaries of this victory is going to stretch far, and flow like a river to every part and sector of the state. We pray the uplifting hands of Almighty Allah to rest mightily on Abdulmumeen, even as we say HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS GOLDEN BOY MUMEEN!!!

The case of Ahmed Awela, Murtala (Eti Bobo) among other Ebira youths

Ismail M. Kabir, Lagos. Between controversial existence and a contentious exit. There are various sides to a story. For an event that happens with few or no significant eye witness, the news come in different versions; some partially correct, others completely cooked up. In some cases, such non-witnessed event pass round as rumour until eventually confirmed. Rumour it was, when a phone call from Okene announced the death of two famous Ebira youths! They were killed by the Police, reported the news. Being on a Sunday when nothing too special should ensue save for the usual church services and social functions, the news sounded as the most unexpected, as a matter of fact, incredible! The thought of losing such youths on an ordinary day like Sunday undoubtedly was the reason for the astonishment. Not a single person of Ebira origin, within or outside the soil would believe such shocker upon first hearing. Text messages, phone calls and of course physical enquiries lingered, all in an atte

The Obege legend

In the earliest generations when the art of magic was yet a myth to the people, there was born a boy into a family of hunters in the village of Eika - one of the six communities that comprised the ancestral groups. He was believed to have been born with a leaf in his hand and to the elders of then, that was prognostic of what he would be - a native healer. And had grown up performing wonders. His kinsmen were all hunters, they would deny the boy the opportunity to follow them hunting, purely on age ground - and he was really too young to go hunting in the forest. They would leave him in the house with the women as they set out on their hunting expedition. But they had meet the young Obege in the forest roasting a fair member of the forest’s game, all alone - and unarmed! The elders had to defer to this wonderful boy. Obege as an adult was more than human. His fame had spread all over the land: he was a healer of most seemingly incurable diseases, he was a rain maker, assumed more divin
