THE INCLUSION OF ALL THE NYCN CHAIRMEN OF THE 21 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN KOGI STATE GOVERNANCE: A MATTER OF CORPORATE CONCERN

MY UNRESERVED THANKS TO, HIS EXCELLENCY, ALH. YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KOGI STATE One can easily liken the situation of the youths especially those of us in youth activisms from the central in Kogi politics before now to that of a lump of light used to catch the nocturnal frogs and abandoned eventually until the need arise again for another hunt. We prayed, craved, clamoured and canvassed for good governance but we had no seat or decision in the government that governed us. Therefore, I considered this singular pronouncement of His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello as a history not to be broken in the polity of Kogi State. Your Excellency, given the disposition to your pronouncement, I hereby reiterate the commitment to the sustanance of the youth's contribution towards an equitably developed and progressive Kogi State. By your Excellency's resolve to appoint all the 21 local governments NYCN chairmen as Secretary to their local government respectiv

#ENDSARS: THE SUGAR AND THE BITTER PILLS

For the past 2 weeks in our dear country, Nigeria, we have witnessed with mixed emotions, the unfolding events that may mar or strengthen our country depending on how we manage it or what we make of it. I will simply tag it,the good, the bad,the ugly.  The Good The good is the best protest ever organised in Nigeria branded as:#ENDSARS which reverberated across the world to draw government attention to the excesses and the brutality of the police, particularly, the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS. I don’t need to bore you with a list of their excesses as their disbandment without a second thought by the president, shows that Nigerians are vindicated.Like  the president said, a vast majority of the men and women of the police force are good and had working, therefore they shouldn’t be demoralised but the bad eggs amongst them are indeed very very bad.I have a reason not to mention the organisers of this wonderful protest,#ENDSARS in my rider. It’s because

Opinion: Forty Months Is As Far As It Is Near - Dr. S. O. Abdulrahman

Sequel to Gov. Yahaya Bello's victory at the supreme court on Monday, a patriotic Kogi citizen, Dr. Suleiman Omuya Abdulrahman in his congratulatory message has admonished Kogi State government to mount it's guard and fastrack its policy implementation while being conscious of the limited time available to the administration as it rides through the second term in office. Dr. Abdulrahman gave the admonition as a personal contribution to Gov. Yahaya Bello's media briefing after the supreme court Judgement (Yahaya Bello Speaks After Victory, Unveils Plans For Kogi State https://youtu.be/y5Rn_g59XnM). The opinion reads: "The pronouncement has been made. The electoral victory is affirmed as contained in the unanimous judgement of the supreme court justices.  "Only a few may be surprised. Maybe out of deep seated and/or passionate sentiment or mere hope against hope. Beyond that, in this COVID-19 constrained economy, another rerun even if indicated would be

The Court Ruling on Ajaokuta, Kotonkarfe, and Lokoja As Part of Igala Kingdom - A Comedy of Error and Utter Greed

By: Buhari Sani Omolori The 21st-century mind is expected to be the most refined, most coherent and most advanced in knowledge. That is why it is surprising to see a Federal High Court ruled out of ignorance and to see a king heavily burdened by expansionism, and constantly fanning dangerous fires amongst people who have peacefully lived as neighbors.  His Royal Majesty, the Attah Igala, Ameh Oboni relied on the supposed treaty of 1841 to lay claim to Ajaokuta, Kotonkarfi and Lokoja lands. If this were not putting the cart before the horse, then he should have established ownership of the land which in turn would have given the right to cede or sell. You cannot sell what you do not own. The said treaty never came into effect.  I am not sure if the present Attah were as informed as Attah Aliyu Obajeh who knew that The Queen, upon discovering the fraud in the deal, declined to sanction it. In his misguided letter to General Sani Abacha in 1995, Attah was  well aware that in th

New Politics Of Laziness, By Yusuf Ozi-Usman

Published on Greenbreporters.com Apr 21, 2018. By Yusuf Ozi Usman A very interesting and worrying topic trending around Nigeria today is the issue of laziness among the youths. It is interesting for those of us who have been worrying all along about the new generation of youths that are dangerously destroying the fabrics of the society and making none sense of our heroes past. And it is worrying that just because it is President Muhammadu Buhari that said something to that effect, the same youths and their parents have turned it into politics and or jokes. The question we should really reflect on is: are the Nigerian youths lazy or not lazy? Let’s attempt at answering the question by some simple analysis or logic. Today and even long before now, we have been breeding very lazy Nigerians, starting from the very first day a child is born. Indeed, an average couple would not feel comfortable if their child is not enrolled in kindergarten school a little over one year after such chi

NEW DIRECTION VISION CANNOT BE VISIBLE WITHOUT PASSION, SKILLS TRANSPARENCY WRAPPED IN TRUTH - by OGO'GU Mark

By OGO'GU Mark Ladies and gentlemen, the patriotic citizens of Kogi state, there is joy and peace to join the most powerful silent worriors with the hope that someday and somehow God will rescue us from this political  misery  we have found ourselves as a people in the state. To me, I can never give up on calling the government to order in a bid to ensure dividends of democracy are delivered to the people. There are certain things i feel beautiful and good - which should top other priorities - and i must crave for them, doing the right thing at the appropriate moment is one of those. It is only a fool that will fold his arms and watch his father's house being abuse by selected political rapscallions and remain silent. The reason we are this poor as a state is not really because we don't have natural and human resources, a point validated by his Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello when he unambiguously stated that "Kogi has no business to be poor" and vibrantly campa

This Change is ours; Let blow our own Trumpet

By Muhammed D. Adano The late sir Ahmed Bello,  Premier of the northern Nigeria once said that " If we do not blow our own Trumpet no one would do so for us -for they are too busy blowing theirs". I was privileged to attend Governor Yahaya Bello inauguration January 27th, 2016 at Lokoja. One of the speakers, a bonafide Kogites, a distinguished senator representing the good people of Kogi West senatorial district  spoke on 'How God win'. Senator Dino Melaye began by saying that the vote of Almighty God has won. He went further to say that the people of Kogi state from Central, East and to the West casted their votes for Prince Abubakar Audu but God voted for Alhaji Yahaya Bello  and returned elected". #Godwin-Ohomorihi Ohun. God has spoken why some people contesting with the word of God. The stadium witness reverberated with ovation and my Governor Yahaya Bello wept openly during his inaugural speech presentation. Before leaving the podium, the Governor posited

How Far Can Yahaya Bello Go With Kogi Criminals?

By Otori Ozigi As we are all already aware, one of the key components of the change agenda of the present Federal Government under the watchful eyes of President Muhammadu Buhari is the ongoing total war on corruption and other financial crimes. It is an incontrovertible fact that the greatest problem of Kogi State since its creation in 1991 is the hydra-headed monster of unbridled corruption and impunity; it is arguably  safe to say that the full story of corruption and its havoc in the state would probably take another generation to tell- there is enough evidence on ground to suggest that there is full scale corruption in low and high places in all facets of our lives. The culture of corruption in all institutions and organizations in both formal and informal sectors of the state has been promoted to a height where it is a way of life. No profession is a saint or an exception in this unwholesome phenomenon that has contributed in no small measure to bringing Kogi state on her kneel

Lest we forget to count the cost: Ebira at critical crossroads

By now, it should be abundantly clear to all moderate observers, Anebira and non-Anebira alike, that Ebira is yet at another critical crossroads in her socio-political journey. Some prevailing happenings bordering Kogi State polity/governance cum Anebira in-house tussles should and must leave all genuine minds meticulously and soberly reflecting. While many are still basking in the euphoria of our nascent political freedom as symbolized in our ascension to the helm of affairs of our dear Kogi State, and of course, gathering the baskets to collect the goodies that come with it; the boat is being rocked by both internal and external forces. Qwaqwaa! Where and how did we get it so wrong? Are we truly an impossible and unmanageable people? Why our quick regression into this sorry state of yesterday? Or could these be doses from our touted and warped republicanism, where self-wrecking endeavours find and enjoy ample excuses? These and many more are agitating concerned minds. Our refusal or

Local Government Autonomy And Its Caveat...

By Ibrahim Onimisi Immediately after his inauguration, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello intimated his focus of agenda for government workers, particularly local government workers, whose welfare problem has been most visibly a challenge to all. He intended to do this through what he called local government autonomy under his watch. A policy we all strongly believe is the solution to the problem of we local government workers without looking at the caveat. It was well applauded with so much appreciation to the new government of the day. The occasion of this formal elucidation of his policy was at a high profile joint meeting he had with combined labour leaders of the state, who are also oblivious of the caveat attached to such pronunciation made by the governor. These Capitalist in progressive uniforms self called labour leaders, who doesn't no anything about Trade Union Congress Act, yet donning the masquerade of progressive... At this event, the governor revealed therei

Grassroot strengthening of Kogi State Governance - a worthy legacy of Alh. Abubakar Ohere

Grassroot strengthening of Kogi State Governance - a worthy legacy of Alh. Abubakar Ohere , SA to Kogi State Governor on LG and Chieftaincy Affairs. The numerous grassroots strengthening of the Governmentof His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello by and through the pro-activeness of Alh Ohere, the SA on LG and Chieftaincy Affairs, is worthy of recognition and commendation. Within the short time of his assumption of that critical arm of the state governance, Alhaji Ohere has criss-crossed Kogi State and mustered the needed support for a befitting take-off and strengthening of the new state government. In his effortat helping the new government smooth and embracing take-off, his effort has garnered the needed community and grassroot interaction of the state governance system with the people. This is an approach worthy of emulation and adaptation if the people must feel the impact of governance. He has successfully identified stakeholders within the LG system, and ensuring an indepth under

WADA AND HIS CRUMBLING CASE

By Barr. Omeiza Shadrach, E. Seated like a participant in a popular program titled, "Who wants to be a millionaire", Idris Wada, one of the challengers of Governor Yahaya Bello's mandate, adopted his witness statement on oath, having been sworn to an oath to say nothing but the truth as he gives his evidence as a star witness in the case. The counsel to Wada laboriously led him through the examination-in-chief, tendering series of documents including a photocopy of Wada's PVC, which are really not relevant to the petition. At the tail end of the examination-in-chief, Wada was asked what he wants the Tribunal to do for him, and he said "I want the Tribunal to declare me the winner of the kogi state election"! Within me, I said, "If wishes were horses, beggars will ride". Then the time came when his evidence was subjected to judicial scrutiny, and in no time, Wada crumbled his case by himself all alone as we will soon see. I will try to give some

THE NEEDLESS HYPE ABOUT THE ADMISSION OF IDRIS WADA'S FORENSIC EVIDENCE AT THE TRIBUNAL.

By Barr. Omeiza Shadrach, E. There is always a needless hype from the people who are jittery of the prospect of failure in an adventure. These kind of people will always have imaginary victory and celebrate in the vacuum, but its all a mirage. The political supporters of Wada, overwhelmed with strange ecstasy ran amok on the dusty street of Jabi and besieged the media hemisphere with the news that, the "forensic documentary evidence" tendered by the Counsel to Wada was admitted in evidence. "That's all". I am sure that even the counsel to their boss will be aghast at the baseless and needless show of the ecstasy by the overzealous supporters. That the "forensic documentary evidence" was admitted in evidence is not the end of the case neither does it suggests victory for the Petitioner. In fact, is nothing but a footnote of the case which can fall like a pack of cards at any given time. We have seen that nemesis catching up with the so called "

Of Bello’s Bulldozers And Mahmud Jega’s Buried Amulets by Barry Eneji Yakub

The recent demolition by the Kogi State government of some landmarks in Lokoja, the state capital has caused not a little stir among the general public. From the media reportage of the demolitions of the former Paparanda Square; Lugard, Lokoja City, NTA and Government House Roundabouts, one is inclined to think or believe that the Yahaya Bello administration had perpetrated a Taliban or ISIS-styled destruction of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kogi State. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Governor Yahaya Bello during his inaugural address on January 27, 2016 at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja had stated his administration’s resolve to, among others; reposition Kogi State as a tourist destination of choice, tapping into her unique and strategic position as a gateway to the Northern, Eastern and Western parts of Nigeria. The rich colonial history of Lokoja as the first administrative base of the British colonialists in Northern Nigeria is added boon to the latent tourism potentia
