End of year 2007: Season's Greetings!

2007 Eid-ul-Adha Sermon Eids in Islam are not man-made; Allah is the One Who created them. He also laid down special rules and etiquette to be followed during these two `Eids. Muslims should not transgress Allah's laws.. Dear Muslims, we meet here this morning to pray and to listen to this sermon. We have gathered together in one place to worship Allah the Almighty — even though we have different traditions, speak different languages, and are of different colors. This blessed meeting is practical proof that all Muslims form one body and one Ummah, as Allah says: [Truly! Through personal experiences, I have resolved that until sanity is restored in the system, Nigerians are better self-protected than rely on the so-called Nigerian Police. Though good ones still exist, the bad eggs have caused much damage on the image of the judicial force. Ebira Personality profile: Reverend George Ehusani

Reverend George Ehusani The Reverend Father George Ehusani is the outgoing Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree from Howard University, Washington D.C. He was ordained for the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja in 1981, and held several pastoral responsibilities before his appointment to the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in 1994. A theologian, teacher, poet, musician, human rigths activist and social commentator, Father Ehusani has preached several retreats and published numerous books and articles covering a wide-range of issues, from Social Anthropology to Social Justice, and from Christian Humanism to Christian Spirituality. His publications include two poetry antologies as well as over 10 music CDs in both the English language and his local Ebira. Ebira Personality Profile: Sefi Atta

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Sefiya Atta trained as an accountant in London and began to write while she was working in New York. She is a graduate of the creative writing program at Antioch University, Los Angeles, and has won prizes from Zoetrope (3rd prize, Short Fiction Contest, 2002), Red Hen Press (1st prize, Short Story Award, 2003) and the BBC (2nd prize, African Performance for plays, 2002 & 2004). In 2005, she was awarded PEN International’s David TK Wong Prize and her debut novel entitled Everything Good Will Come was published (by Arris Books, England, Interlink Publishing, USA, Double Storey Books, South Africa and Farafina Books, West Africa). She has just written her second novel, entitled Swallow. She lives in Mississippi with her husband Gboyega Ransome-Kuti, a medical doctor, and their daughter, Temi, and teaches at Mississippi State University.
