As Kogi electorates head to the polling boots tomorrow, Saturday the 26th of July 2008 to vote their choice candidate for their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs), one is unsure of what to expect particularly from a state known for political violence. The state police command has assured a violence-free electioneering inspite of the tense political atmosphere across the state. Our investigation reveals that in the past few days, people have started leaving the state for fear of likely breakdown of law and order before, on and after the election day which many fear will be a 'hot day'. The mood was high on 5th July 2008 when family, friends and well wishers of Alhaji Abdulmalik Alabi (a.k.a Apolo, MD, Nyase Guest Inn, Inike, Okene) and Ibrahim Ovosi, danced, wined and dined at the wedding of their children; Ibrahim Ovosi Yakubu ( CEO, Ovonet Computers, Sokoto ), and Halimat Abdul Malik ( LLB. Barrister at Law ) held at the Ezu (new) Hotel, along Kabba Rd, Ogaminana Kogi state. Ebira eminent personalities including Alh Idris Attah (Lagos), Alh. Yunusa Attah (Okene), Haj. Hadiza Attah (Abuja), Alh Musa Ezu Attah (Ogaminana), Dr Abdullahi Ibrahim (Sokoto) Mr Femi Abdul (Abuja), Hajiya Ramatu Ibrahim (Abuja) , Haj. Ramatu Abubakar (Itakpe) among others graced the event. It's humanitarian; it's selfless and grassroot oriented. Aids Crisis Response Team (ACRT) have done a wonderful job from counselling to testing and offering drugs to HIV positive people. Beside other great gestures by this wonderful team, they have plans to establish a permanent contact with the volunteering youths comprising of NAKOSS Comrades, EbiraView and Ebira Opete TV crew while tasking the team to do more in researh work across the community to identify the people who need help most. On Saturday, 12th July the team were in Obagende where about 60 students received the HIV test before heading to Ege community of Adavi LG. While in Ege, the community troop to welcome the team. Drugs were offered to people with various kind of ailments beside encouraging the villagers on being useful to themselves through farming and other trades. It was just few minutes before 4.00 am when I arrived Okene and as I disembarked at Ogaminana at such early hours of the morning, I wondered what was going on in the minds of my colleagues, Idris Abdul Rahman and Usman Aliyu who left Lagos in the early hours of Thursday, July in the company of the ACRT team members. As I made my way to the prestigious De Hilltop Guest house, Abdul Rahman and Terry Sebastian, a member of the team and a professional photographer from Canada had left for the cyber café. Around 9am, we left the Guest house for the mission; delivering talk on and offering treatment to HIV/AIDS patients. Our first call was at Kogi state School of Nursing, Obangede. The students were happy and received the team expectantly. Lizzy was wonderful. She delivered a lengthy talk on HIV; cause, modes of transmission, preventive methods and all that. She advised the students on the need to know their status as Nursing students who might be offering treatment to HIV patients in the fu

The AIDS Crisis Response Team (ACRT) is in Okene and will be conducting HIV/AIDS - free campaign to Ebira public in conjuction with Ebira youths as volunteers. The team arrived Nigeria on monday, July 7th 2008 at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The program is expected to begin Thursday, 11th of July 2008 and will be published on Images of Ebiraland as the team moves from place to place. Places expected to be visited include Okene general hospital among others. Terry Sebastian , one of the team members, was not sure what to expect, fearing absense of internet services required to update their blog while in Nigeria. Terry however promised that they would deliver the much needed supplies themselves to make sure the team get to the people that need them the most. EbiraView hopes to deliver real-time web coverage of their activity in Okene to Ebiras and the world. Our team is set to leave for Okene at the early hours of Thursday, 11th July.
