Ajaokuta Ownership Tussle - Group Cautions Indigenes Against Violence

By Ismail M. Kabir, Lokoja A coalition of concerned Ebira interest groups has cautioned against acts of tribal incitement and violence in the ongoing legal tussle over the ownership of Ajaokuta land. The caution was contained in a release by the Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Special Projects, Hon. The Court Ruling on Ajaokuta, Kotonkarfe, and Lokoja As Part of Igala Kingdom - A Comedy of Error and Utter Greed

By: Buhari Sani Omolori The 21st-century mind is expected to be the most refined, most coherent and most advanced in knowledge. That is why it is surprising to see a Federal High Court ruled out of ignorance and to see a king heavily burdened by expansionism, and constantly fanning dangerous fires amongst people who have peacefully lived as neighbors.  His Royal Majesty, the Attah Igala, Ameh Oboni relied on the supposed treaty of 1841 to lay claim to Ajaokuta, Kotonkarfi and Lokoja lands. If this were not putting the cart before the horse, then he should have established ownership of the land which in turn would have given the right to cede or sell. You cannot sell what you do not own. The said treaty never came into effect.  I am not sure if the present Attah were as informed as Attah Aliyu Obajeh who knew that The Queen, upon discovering the fraud in the deal, declined to sanction it. In his misguided letter to General Sani Abacha in 1995, Attah was  well aware that in th

Sanusi Ohiare and the new Ebira Civilization

By Haruspice ( Photos by EbiraView ) In my voyage of hustles, I found myself last Monday in a place called Upake- a habitat inhabited by the Ebiras in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State. I was there on the invitation of the Rural Electrification Agency to anchor the commissioning of the first Rural Electrification Fund (REF) Minigrid based on Public Private Partnership at Upake Village in Ajaokuta LGA, Kogi State.  2, 879 people in Upake and more in the neighbouring Obangede community in Ajaokuta now powered with clean, safe and reliable energy. Upake is the first of 12 communities on the first call of the Rural Electrification Fund (REF). Upake community is believed to be the ancestral town of the Ebiras- the beginning of all Ebira civilisations started from this place. Years of total neglect has however rendered this cradle of civilisation of the Ebira speaking people as the forgotten capital of the world. When you are searching for what true poverty looks like, Upake is cr
