Celebrating Salamat Ahuoiza, West Africa's first female neurosurgeon

Dr. Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu is a neurosurgeon at National Hospital, Abuja. She is the first indigenous trained female neurosurgeon in Nigeria is also the first female to be certified a neurosurgeon in West Africa. Dr. Aliu is an indigene of Okenne Local Government Area of Kogi State but was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, where she had most of her education up to the university level. She found the area of neurosurgery interesting and intriguing, and then decided to specialize in the discipline. When an opportunity opened up for her at the Neurosurgery Centre in Sokoto state, she went ahead to train in spite of discouragements and difficulties. The training, which takes about six years to get certified, if there no unforeseen circumstances during the training period, tested both her capacity to handle the pressures of the job as well as managing her job with other family responsibilities. Celebrating Fatima BomBom Sani

A woman has claimed major honours as the most outstanding student in the just concluded call to Nigerian Bar Ceremony. The brainy woman made history with her exceptional academic performance. A rare genius of a kind, Fatima Bombom Sani has made history as the first Law student to collect nine separate awards at the Call to Bar of Nigerian Law School held on Wednesday. The bookworm was honoured with standing ovation by Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, other members of the Body of Benchers (BOB) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE), other dignitaries and the new wigs (her colleagues just called to Bar) for the outstanding feat. Fatima broke existing record in the Nigeria Law School by bagging nine separate awards compared to existing record of seven awards ever received at the Call to Bar of Nigerian Law School. The awards include the “Best Student of the Year (1st Prize)’’ donated by Sir Adetokunbo Ademola , Dr. Taslim Elias and Justice Atanda Fat

Soldiers invade Inike area of Okene

Reporting reaching EbiraView indicates that thick smoke can be sighted from Inike community of Okene where soldier invaded since the early hours of the morning. As more gunshot is heard from the area, residents are reported to have remained indoor with little or no movement across the entire Inike and Idoji areas of Okene. A source who preferred anonymity told us that the incidence may not be unconnected to the recent attack on DSS hqtrs in Lokoja when some suspected Boko Haram inmates escaped. It is alleged that some of the escaped suspects are hiding in that area . In Idoji, residents are seen gathered in small numbers around their homes unsure of the unfolding incident as more gunshots are heard from the distant. More update soon.

TRIBUNAL UPHOLDS OHIARE’S ELECTORAL VICTORY

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja on Monday 12.10.2015 at 3.40pm upheld the election of Senator (Dr.) Mohammed Salami Ohiare in the March 28 2015 Kogi Central Senatorial Elections. In a Unanimous Judgement read by the tribunal chairman Justice Akon Ikpeme, the tribunal dismissed Honorable Ahmed Ogembe’s petition challenging the return of Ohiare as the duly elected Senator for lack of merit. Reacting to the Judgement, Senator Ohiare said: ‘’Once again, the Judiciary has proved beyond any reasonable doubts that it is truly independent, and has remained the last hope of the common man in this country. The Judiciary has reaffirmed that the good people of Kogi Central freely and overwhelmingly voted for me and my great party APC, and no one can steal that mandate through the back door”. Tension in Okene as police fired an innocent boy on the leg

Kabir An unidentified policeman from the Okene division has shot a young boy, in his way to his motor mechanics workshop this morning.  According to sources around the scene of the incidence, the boy, currently lying in a critical condition at the Okene general hospital is a roadside motor mechanic who normally takes a short route, an alley between GRA Okene and the St. Andrew's Primary school to his workshop. 

72 year old social critic arraigned in kidnapp of High Court Judge

BY BANABAS ATTAH (Per Second News), ABUJA Nigeria police command in Kogi state have charged a 72-year-old man, Ahmed Adoke and John Sule, 41, Mechanic, for allegedly kidnapping High Court Judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi. The accused were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court II  Wednesday, along with others now on the run,  to have criminally conspired and armed themselves with offensive weapons to commit the crime. According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) the accused, wielding AK-47 rifles and locally made pistols disguised themselves and blocked  the judge on Ebogogo road, close to the court premises and “forcefully stopped his car and dragged him away.”

BVN Registration : Last minute rush overwhelms banks in Okene

Supreme Court affirms Ado Ibrahim as Ebiraland monarch

By ADE ADE‎SOMOJU (Punch News). HRM Alh. Ado Ibrahim  The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed Alhaji Ado Ibrahim as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland of Kogi State. Ibrahim was appointed the paramount ruler of Ebrialand by the then Military Administrator of Kogi State, Col. Bzigu Afakirya, on June 2, 1997, but a suit challenging his appointment was instituted before the Kogi State High Court on March 6, 1998. Ibrahim appealed to the Supreme Court after he was ordered to be deposed by the concurrent judgments of both the Kogi State High Court where the matter started and subsequently the Jos Division of the Court of Appeal. Thousands Honour Slain Tao FM Radio Staff as Markets Close in Okene

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Okene, Kogi State, on Tuesday to protest the killing of four staff of Tao FM radio in a terrorist bomb blast. The spontaneous protest march was followed by the closure of all markets, banks, offices and commercial ventures in Kogi Central Senatorial District in honour of those killed and injured in the deadly night attack on the popular community radio. Protesters called on the federal and state governments as well as the security agencies to fish out those behind the attack. "We will not allow this to be swept under the carpet again like other unsolved killings in the area in the past", said a female protester who did not give her name. Abandoned renovation work at Okene general hospital resumes

By Ismail M. Kabir Following the recent outburst on Tao FM radio station on the pitiable condition of the Okene general hospital, the long abandoned renovation work has commenced again. Workers were on site when our team visited the hospital on Tuesday, 28th April, 2015. Most of the roofs have been replaced on the admission wards while the staff car park was undergoing repair as at the time of our visit. It could be recalled that the hospital renovation contract was recently awarded by Kogi State government to a yet to be identified company which later abandoned the job after the removal of the old roofs over most parts of the hospital building. This led to the destruction of some of the hospital equipments and facilities including items donated by the World Health Organization (WHO). Tragedy: Four die as gunmen bomb Tao FM station

Kabir The Radio station after the attack Followinng the terror attack yesterday (Monday, April 27th 2015) by unknown gunment on Tao FM, Ebira sole electronic media house located on Ogidi lane, Kuroko in Adavi LGA of Kogi state, four people including two security guards, an in-house engineer and a carpenter were killed. The assaialant then detonated an explosive devide that shook the buiilding housing the radio station to its foundation. The impact of the bomblast which occured around the hour of 8:00PM was felt across Kuroko community and beyond.
